A year later and he still gets beaten.....we need a secondary!!!

Uh, yeah - he was NOT a popular guy in the Dome tonight. He must have something incriminating on someone in the Saints organization for them to still keep his lame azz.

The entire defense needs to get it together. If not they will be sucking muck at the bottom of the league like last year.

Good to see Reggie and Duece back. Just an aside, even though Reggie scored a TD, he is still tentative on his runs. He bobs and dances around, and if he can't break through the line he gives up and goes down. Big contrast to Duece who takes the ball and plows into bodies. Hope he holds up.

Zydekitten
08-17-2008, 06:26 PM
Yeah you right, BB! Plus, they still insist on running Reggie up the middle (where he specializes in giving up and losing yardage) when it clearly does not work . . . Deuce and Stecker did MUCH better in those situations last night.

Bengals tonight on FOXHD. I just know that sissy and ohio will not be disloyal scum and they pull for the Saints.

I heard on WWL this week that they will delay the radio broadcast by 2 seconds to get around the lag from TV. If you can, listen to the broadcast with Jim and Hokie. Much mo betta than the noodleheads on TV.

they are playing down to the level of the competition rather consistently these days. today was good example. granted they were quite depleted in the secondary, but they made bulger look like peyton at times.
i do give bush some credit for his improved performance lately. i did cringe after he caught the TD pass, thinking it would make him cocky and prone to fumbling a punt.
next week should be interesting.....and then new england...yipes!

The saints should be the last of the un-beatens, but Belichek was not having it. Anybody see that wild finish to the Colts/Patriots game last night ? What the hell was that man thinking ??

The injuries in the secondary are getting worrisome. I think Tracy Porter going out last year was the beginning of the end. Hopefully, the backups this year are better. I just hope people come back when they are ready. Porter is surely out for the year.

They need to be improving, not sliding back, as the Pats will be a tough test in two weeks.

In case anyone noticed ,the Bears played Thursday night giving Lovie Smith plenty of time to drive to Indianapolis and assume the identity coaching genius Bill Belichek.

His fourth down call is being labeled his worst coaching decision of his career

Geaux Saints and Skins!! 2 of my 3 teams came away winners yesterday. And I think the Broncos are/were way overrated

Porter is surely out for the year.

Sean Payton said today that the injury is nowhere near as bad as originally feared. It's a sprained MCL and he should be back later this season.

chopitulas
11-16-2009, 05:45 PM
That is very good news. Porter was one guy you didn't see getting burned. He really stabilizes the secondary. Hope they can cover for him til he gets back. He is needed!

Dr. A.
11-17-2009, 01:51 PM
the only good thing about porter being out is more snaps for jenkins this week against the bucs, which should be safe......although as soon as i write that i flashback to thinking that the rams game would be safe as well.....the best thing about new england losing it that it removes any hope they have of playing for home field advantage in the playoffs. they have their division wrapped up and hopefully will take out all frustration on the jets this weekend and just come to NOLA to have a good time and not to beat the saints.

i didnt really disagree with BB's call. the defense was so gassed that giving the ball to Peyton on the 30 or on his own 5 would still have resulted in a touchdown. it was worth the risk. Peyton is too smart for mortal defenses.

Several statistical analysis sites have come to Belichick's defense...it is generally easier to make a fourth and two than for the defense to stop it. If the otherwise surehanded Kevin Faulk did not bobble that ball it would have been a first down. I am ok with the call as it only slightly altered our position in the process.

I don't think I'd want to be the Jets this Sunday...between the loss at the beginning of the season and the crushing loss to the Colts, the Patriots are coming out of the tunnel all fired up! Make all the phone calls you want, Rex...

I agree - I didn't take the jets in the pool. One of the tight, interesting matchups this week is the colts ravens game and then the bears/eagles game where I think it will be a toss-up.

I cant see bears and eagles as a tossup. The Bears appear to have essentially given up, and i dont blame cutler. Only Peyton could have been successful with the pathetic group of recievers they have. Give them a couple of years and a good draft and they will contend with the Vikes.

I think the signing of mcalister is a good thing if he has anything at all left. i dont like releasing chase daniel, and hope he is sitting by the phone waiting for a quick call back. i understand, of course, the rationale for the move.

Assuming Minn/NO both win out and NO loses tonight, who gets the #1 seed in the NFC?

What's the tiebreaker with both of them losing to an AFC team?

eta: after further research (I think this is right)

tie-breakers
Head-to-head, if applicable.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in conference games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss.

So from what I can tell, it falls to #3.

They both play Det, NYG, Car (NO plays Car twice), St L

NO is currently 4-0 with one game remaining against Car.

Minn is currently 2-0 with Car/NYG remaining.

Saints look good even if they lose this one.

I'm not an expert on NFL tiebreakers, but if both win out other than tonight's game, Minn will be 4-0 and NO will be 5-0. My Jr. High math says both will have a won-lost-tied percentage of 100%. If so, it would then go to strength of victory.

Of course, the easy way for the Saints to not have to worry about this would be to win tonight, then win out.

There is definitely a passing of the torch here. The Saints are awesome and proved it. But these aren't the Patriots we're used to, especially on defense. ....but, as the saints play no more AFC teams, one loss to a NFC team, and assuming the Vikings win out too, the home field advantage goes to them. Their one loss would be to an AFC team (Pitt) so their conference record is better. If it came to that, the game would be in a dome, which would not be as bad as playing outside, but obviously best for all if the Vikes would lose another game. ......or of course for the saints to win out. I am nervous about all the games (well maybe not tampa at home).

You gotta like the SAINTS chances of 16 & 0 ...

Redskins will be w/o RB Clinton Portis (concussion) & QB Jason Campbell might've sustained a concussion late 4th qtr last game. 'Skins have good D, but will have to have multiple turnover/scores to beat SAINTS.

Falcon QB Ryan has turf toe injury & Panther's QB Delhomme has a broken finger on his passing hand. SAINTS will be facing & blitzing backups, jamming line o' scrimmage against run.

The 1 & 10 Bucs in the Dome? Only thing they're contending for is the 1st pick of next year's draft. Probly biggest blowout of the season.

Biggest possible threat: Cowdudes in Dome on a Sat. night, IF they play their finest game yet. Don't see that happening.

Injuries, of course, can change EVERYTHING.

Historically, since '72, 7 teams have started out 11 & 0. Six went to the Super Bowl, 4 of 'em winning. GEAUX SAINTS!!!

WHO DAT!!!!
Drew Brees did more Monday night than embarrass the Patriots and establish the Saints as the team to beat in 2009. He gave the greatest regular-season passing performance in modern NFL history, carving up the once-proud Patrits defense.

It all starts with the Cold, Hard Football Facts. And here's Brees' stat line from Monday night.

• 18 of 23 (78.3%), 371 yards, 16.13 YPA, 5 TD, 0 INT, 158.3 passer rating

A few key numbers leap screaming off the sheet:

Five touchdown passes -- Brees is the first player to throw five touchdown passes against a defense fielded by Bill Belichick, the coach considered the great defensive "genius" of his generation.

Fox cut away from the game right after Washington missed their field goal and I was pissed. So, what important game did they deliver instead to us Chicago fans. Dallas/Giants. A great big who cares. I don't care who it is, you stick with the game in the balance and adding the story of trying to protect a perfect season, it was a terrible decision by Fox. All for two mediocre teams nobody around here cares about. Not like it was the Bears or Packers they switched to. Fox, you suck.

It's not Fox, it's the NFL. They require the network to switch at (I think) 3:15CST exactly, no matter what. During the Giants/Falcons game they didn't even have another game to switch to so they just went to commercials and back to the studio to talk.

NFL Red Zone didn't switch (though the commentators said we'd probably be some of the only people getting to see the end as most network channels would be switching). Whew, what a game!!

My three sons live in the area. We visited due to the oldest who just graduated UT, the other is a Sophomore at UT, and another is at Southwestern. We went to Shoal Creek due to the Saints helmet on their roof.

It was great fun with the crowd. All were there for ONE game, the Saints game!

NFL rules only require them to show the home games. If they switched the broadcast in Chicago to NY vs Dallas, that's Fox's choice.

Fox is contractualy obligated to go to the 3:15 game in that situation.

It has something to do with the fact that FOX and CBS both have NFL broadcast rights but they alternate weeks with rights to a double header. The specific time has something to do with who has the double header rights that week. After they cut the Giants/Falcons game short here they went into a long explanation about why NFL rules required it and it wasn't a decision FOX had any control over. I think they said that if FOX had been the double header network that week they wouldn't have had to cut it off. I have no idea where to begin to google the specific wording of the contract, but they read the pertinent parts of it on the local station here when they were discussing it.

Yes, but upon further review, Fox had the doubleheader this week. They would have had to cut you off at 3:15 if the second game was on CBS, but it wasn't. I think, as usual, Swag is right.

There may be some other consideration that I am not aware of. Or, more likely, the Cowboys/Giants matchup is such a big deal, ratings-wise nationally, that it wasn't going be to delayed.

But luckily, since I live down here, I saw the Saints game to its conclusion. And what a great game it was. WHO DAT!

12-06-2009, 09:13 PM
If they don't have double-header rights that week, or if they can't show a late game in your market, then they may need to cut off from bonus coverage at 15 minutes past the hour. But I've never heard of a rule that makes them cut away from a game (bonus or not) to switch to another game on their network that doesn't involve a home market team.

But none of the rules makes sense to me (other than always showing the home team). I don't understand why the NFL and the networks both wouldn't want to allow both CBS and Fox to show double headers every week, plus as much bonus coverage as they want to.

BigDag

I don't understand why the NFL and the networks both wouldn't want to allow both CBS and Fox to show double headers every week, plus as much bonus coverage as they want to.

Because it gives one network an exculsive each week, usually in the late the late afternoon slot. Though, depending on the schedule, sometimes you get one game early and two games late. (And if you live in an NFL market, sometimes you get just one game in each window) Both networks can charge more for their commercials on those occasions when there is no other option.

The Saints game wasn't cut off down here. We saw every exciting second of it. The original post came from Frosty about the FOX station in Chicago. And the sum total of my knowledge about any of it is that our FOX station said they were obligated by NFL rules to cut off or switch over at precisely 3:15. The only reason I even remember that much of it is because the time was so exact.

Beautiful day at the very crappy stadium called FedEx field. I can't stress enough how much I wanted us to pants the Skins since 20 yrs ago I and then wife were treated worse than ever at an opposing stadium, and we had been to quite a few. The Skins were obviously up for this one and looking for something to hang a hat on in this dismal season of theirs, while the Saints looked downright flat. But good teams find a way to win and the boys did that with a little help from the choking opposition. Sorry Phat and Belle and any other TH-Skins fans but this was one of the sweetest wins I have ever watched in person and I didn't think I could still jump that high as when that ball sailed through those uprights! We were so impressed with the Saints when they reopened the Superdome against Atlanta in 2006 we decided to become fans. We were only lukewarm Vikings fans anyway and figured that even if the Saints are losing there is still going to be a party in New Orleans. I’ll admit that I was relieved to see the Vikings struggle with Arizona on Sunday.

No need to appologize, Ken. Being a life long Skins fan, I had to back my team on Sunday. I knew deep down that they wouldn't win (but they sure as shit made it interesting). The Saints have always been one of my teams. Way before I fell in love with the city of NOLA and I'm not sure why I hung around after some of those horrid seasons but I did. And I have to appologize to you for the fan's behavior. While I've never been to Fed Ex field, I have been to RFK many times to see them and never really saw that type of behavior.

As much as I wanted the Skins to win, I didn't want to see the Black and Gold lose either. And a tie would've sucked. So, back to rooting full time for the Saints and praying for a Super Bowl XLIV win baybee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What he said...

I have never been a hard core Skins fan but did enjoy the first stint of Gibbs. But it took me awhile to get there.

Moved from Ft Worth to DC as a Dallas fan since its inception. Camped for two cold ass days to score tickets to the 1982 NFC Championship game between the Cowboys and Indians...went dressed in blue and silver and never had such a hassle in my whole life and during the last quarter had more beer thrown on me, than Richard and I drank all game. Richard got in a tussle with the a**hole and it was a very ugly scene. Shudda never switched teams but in 1988 when Landry was fired I swore that never again would I root for a team with such ownership (ironic now)

Mildly was a skins fan but did enjoy the hogs, Gibbs and such but again enter another owner and GM that I won't support no matter.

The Saints have had my heart for three seasons now but when they came to town I was all excited to have the Saints kick some major butt and was so disappointed. Hence my expressed displeasure that was interpreted that I was a skins fan...

Nope just fairly embarrassed by their play.

Anyway Ken you are right...the skins fans are the worst. They even won that 82 playoff game 31-17 and still were rude. Wonder why I even bothered.

nice win, but once again you see the saints playing to the level of the competition, especially on defense.

the team i do not want to play in the playoffs is philadelphia. i know saints destroyed them in week 2, but they seem to present very different match up problems now.

Then toasts and cheers as random cars continued to roll by honking their horns until they closed Veterans Blvd. Then it was crazy when the players and coaches and owner and whoever exited....the players honking and waving, some with their cell phones out of the window and videoing the craziness. Freaking blast!! WOOHOOO!!! Saw a guy with a t-shirt that read "Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is my two front seats!" with the date of the Superbowl below that. Crazy!!!

It took a lot of searching, but for the last NFL Network game I wanted to see, I eventually found a site that was streaming it online. It only worked on IE, and required an ActiveX install. Oddest of all, it was a broadcast from France, so it was the NFL feed but with French commercials.

Check http://vexcast.com/ on Saturday to see if you can find it.

I have managed to see all of the Saints games via links from this site.
http://www.atdhe.net/ . As Swag suggests the feeds come from worldwide broadcasts, I have enjoyed Russian (i think) and Swedish commercials.
Occasionally the feed will crash (invariably on a critical play) and you will need to go back to the index and select a new feed. Generally works well enough for me.

The Quarter (Addison Rd & Beltline) is a big Saints hangout.
Arapaho Pub (Arapaho & Hillcrest) is a new place, we Saints fans have been the majority lately (though never vs the Boys).
I'm told the #1 Saints bar is the Buffalo Wild Wings in Bedford, but I haven't been there myself.

Also see http://www.dfwwhodats.com

I'll be watching somewhere with my Saints fan friends (you met Mark & Rachael). I can call you Saturday if you want, to let you know where we decide to watch.

Those of you who happened to watch the great comeback victory by the NO Saints this past weekend in Washington DC over the Redskins, may remember how FOX Sports decided that while the Saints marched to victory; they would show multiple times an old toothless Saints fan cheering on his beloved team. Probably in some small way to try and ridicule the WhoDat Nation.

Well, the Saints' Fans have decided that this liquored up old fellow truly embodies the hardcore Saints' fan that has been suffering through 42 years of misery and losing. A website and facebook page have been developed to try and find this guy and get him to the Superdome for a home game.

So if you know this guy or simply want to join some other Saints' fans in cheering along with the Unknown WhoDat of the WhoDat Nation, here are the websites:

And now the team can buckle down and win the rest of their games on their way to the franchise's 1st Super Bowl victory. Evahhhhhh:D :D

Saturday’s loss was a mere blip on the screen. “New Orleanians are emotional people,” Mayor C. Ray Nagin said Saturday afternoon. “Our emotions get into everything. With them winning every week it just helps us to get through some difficult situations. It’s been a psychological salve for us, healing some of our wounds from Hurricane Katrina.”

Dang, that's the first intelligent comment I've heard from Willy Wonka

I've been suffering too much here to note what's going on with your team. After we got win #2 the paper updated the race for the #1 draft choice. The Rams are in first place; with the parenthetical note 'at last, a team we can mock.'

That said, with my first and second favorite NFL teams playing Sunday I've got to root against the Saints for the second time this season!

I think it is coaching. The coaches are not keeping these guys focused. Yes the injuries hurt. When a team is up 17-0 at home with a half of football to play with so much on the line and does not finish it then I look at the coaching. The inconsistency that has plagued this team since they took it to the Pats on Monday night is disconcerting. They are the target now so they have to play that way and will be ok.

Yeah you right... It's not so much that they lost, it's the way they lost. The Bucs played like they had something to play for instead of the Saints. Where is the run defense?!?!? You can't let teams run right up the middle like that. Ugh Ugh Ugh, as in ugly! I have had a sick stomach since after watching that. Reminded me of my days as a 49er fan (before they got good) when they just couldn't finish a team and found a way to lose. The town is still full of black and gold but that was a real bummer.

I have been watching every game this season, and it seems it has always been a nail-biter. We have had to work hard for every victory, and even though we just squeaked by on several, a victory it is. I have to start looking at the positive side of this, as I got way too depressed after today's game, and after all, it is just a game. The wonderful Saints are 13-2, a very good season indeed, and one of the top contenders for the big prize (Super Bowl). Any loss hurts, but this is not over yet, and we are closer to the big one than ever before. GEAUX SAINTS!!!!! WE LOVE YA.......ON TO MIAMI!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that you have assessed the situation accurately. At this rate, "A Saints Christmas" will be replaced by "Free Falling". Championships are not won by teams that play down to their opponents.
