That's OK, I'm just still bitter over the 1979 AFC Championship Game (I was an Oiler fan/season ticket holder at the time).
That game, as much as any other, led to instant replay reviews in the NFL.
I remember that game. Don't worry the score would have benn 27-17 instead of 27-13;)
I will never forget the Oilers Thursday night game against Miami in the Astrodome.
I wasn't at that one, but I remember it. Earl Campbell ran for almost 200 yards and 4 TDs.
I WAS at the Thursday night game in 1980 when the Oilers beat the Steelers 6-0. Talk about a defensive war. They were hitting so hard you could hear it in the stands, and several players were carted off on stretchers. Brutal.

How about super bowl IX at Tulane for defensive battles, or mistake ridden?
Still the coldest super bowl in history until it goes to New York after next season.

They actually do, if they want to keep the #1 seed in the AFC. If they lose and Baltimore wins, they miss having home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see what happens next Sunday. Brady DID throw for 387 yards in a losing effort in Buffalo the first time around. Since Buffalo can score a lot that means Brady will be firing a lot.
That means Brees has to chuck up close to 200. And if SF is blowing out St Louis at half time, do you risk playing Brees in the second half since it would be a meaningless game.

Plus San Fran pounds the ball and uses short passes to keep the chains moving. That's really the only way to stop the Saints offense...just keep them off the field.

So who thinks we'll see a flood of "classless Falcons" posts from the sports pundits tomorrow? Any chance Pete Prisco will even acknowledge it, much less have anything intelligent to say? Does this mean Atlanta is now "tainted" in some way?

If Matt Flynn can come in and have a record setting day, does that mean that anyone can fit in to Green Bay's offense? No offense to Matty, he is a good QB, but does this show that Brees is actually the NFL MVP? Discuss....

The best the mouths could bring themselves to say this afternoon was an off-hand comment about sharing the MVP.
I am at a complete loss to understand why it is so freaking hard for the "experts" to give the Saints any credit. They spent half the game last week talking about how great Rodgers is while watching Brees break the record. (The "tained", "unsportsman-like" record.) It seems like they have a "but..." for everything the Saints accomplish.
That's ok though. We aren't wearing bags ever again and we'll be in the record books so they can all go fuck themselves.

Between being in a small media market and playing in a dome, the Saints get short shrift from many sportswriters and commentators. Do I think that is unfair? Yes, but I am a Who Dat. I can tell you that there is one way to open a few eyes and mouths, and that would be to go on the road and win a championship game in Green Bay.

One more: Jimmy Graham's (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/108518/jimmy-graham) spectacular season is officially one for the record books. The New Orleans Saints (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-orleans-saints) tight end just scored his 11th touchdown of the season, but the record-breaking play came a little later. Graham's next catch gave him 79 yards for the day and 1,291 for the season. That catch put him one yard beyond Kellen Winslow (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2695/kellen-winslow), who set the record in 1980.

I root for those Saints until now. On the "grass" (and I use that term loosely)

Even with Alex Smith at QB, the Niners can pull this off.

Balance between conferences. The NFL deemed the Packers game the top draw of the weekend, and slotted them into the best (highest viewership) time, which is 4pm ET Sunday. Since the NFC was the later of the two Sunday games, that meant that the other NFC game (Saints @ Niners) had to be the earlier game on Saturday.

The grass won't make a big difference, the Saints offense is not based on speed and quick cuts. Oh, and that Sproles guy and Brees fella, they both played on grass just down the coast so I'm not seeing that as an issue at all. Saints 27, Miner 49ers 13.

If the Saints play a half like the first half yesterday they'll loose to the 49ers. Against a better D they would have been down by 2 TDs at halftime, and against a team with a good running game they don't make up that type of deficit all that easily. But if they play two periods like the second half and avoid costly mistakes I think SF will have no chance to contain them or score with them.
Geaux Saints!

As a Niners fan, the Saints are the only team I was really worried about seeing. That being said, I think their offense might present the most problems for a questionable defense. Smith has been surprisingly efficient and the receivers finally got their heads out of their butts. With that running game, they can control the clock and keep the ball out of Brees' hands. At least, that's the only way they stand a chance at winning.

Saints offense will challenge the 49ers defense beyond anything they have seen all season. They played precious few potent offenses to begin with and the Saints offense right now is playing better than it ever has. If the Saints turn the ball over, then anything is possible. But the BIG difference this year is that we have three healthy running backs who are putting numbers up. Last year not so much.
Put a linebacker on Sproles and take away coverage from Graham or Colston across the middle or Thomas on play action. This is a many headed hydra of an offense. The 49 D needs to get to Brees early and often, but that might be hard against an All Pro O line.....all in all, it will be a very interesting match-up.
