That's a great venue! Go to Dracut next door & eat at Scola's. (I wish I could!!!) I haven't found an Italian restaurant in NOLA that could compare.

Good for you! Be sure to post a report of the concert. The brothers are headed here in another month.

nooooooooo, how dare you???
the outrage is in jest. but we have so many fantastic dining options here in lowell that you would be doing yourself a great disservice if you went to dracut. though i must say, i'm pretty tempted to check out scola's myself now; i'd never even heard of it.
within walking distance of boarding house park is blue taleh for great sushi and southeast asian fusion and cobblestone's, which is basic traditional fare but quite delicious. for ice cream, monkey's is right around the corner, too.
as far as italian, ricardo's is also on the outskirts of downtown (a tougher walk, but walking distance nonetheless.) it can be pretty hit or miss. when it's good, it's very good. but i've also had dishes that were just mediocre.
hopefully the rain holds off tonight.

Sorry, Alice! :) We lived in Dracut and almost never went out to eat in Lowell, I don't know why. You really should check out Scola's though and take a loaf of their home-baked bread home with you.)

It was a GREAT show. No Cyril, though, he was MIA. David Berard, Dr. John's bass player, played bass. A Japanese guy that Art had trouble naming played guitar. I have never seen Charles being given so much time to play sax. Aaron sang "Tell It Like It Is" and Art sang "Sitting in Limbo." What more could you want? Many old faves too like Yellow Moon (with Charles signing), Change Is Gonna Come, Everybody Plays the Fool, Don't Know Much, Fever, Ain't No Sunshine, Amazing Grace, etc. The brothers played for almost 2 hours, many individual standing Os on individual songs. The show was moved indoors to Lowell High School because of rain. A terrific night of music.

Thanks for the review :)
I missed it as I was feeling a little under the weather
Cyril is on his way to Japan with Henry Butler and GPjr for a week of gigs. Seems like a good time was had by all!!!

Yes, it was a great show. I was a little concerned at first because the sound was a bit muddled in Fiyo, but they that cleared up pretty quickly. had great seats in the front row of the balconey. Couldn't believe it, everyone was looking for seats downstairs and when I looked up there, there were only 4 other people to start.
If I'm right, the guitarist played in Joseph's Backyard Groove at JF this year. Not the one who was at the OZ tent a lot though.

re: the japanese (?) guitarist with the Neville's - I got very confused this year during Jazzfest after seeing Aaron's gospel set, seeing Shane Theriot walking around the art booths area, forgoing the Neville's for Bo Dollis' show (I know, but c'mon, the Wild Mag's?) - then seeing later in the press that the band Aaron used at the Gospel Tent was the backing band for the Neville Bro's? Does that sound right? Or was it just the guitar player, whose name completely escapes me now, too...
On a related note, I recognized another Japanese guitar player (not June!) at Vaughan's the Thursday before the 1st weekend and he said he'd been getting some calls from Monk Boudreaux among others (Henry Butler was glad to "see" him!) - and I saw him later playing with the New Orleans Rhythm Syndicate at the fairgrounds. Does anyone know this fine player's name? Me and names... sheesh

The guitarist that has been playing with the Nevilles since Walkin in the shadow of life (2004) is called Makuni Fukada.

Gracias, Ramon! and I meant New Orleans Rhythm Conspiracy for the other guitarist's set...

Go to the Lowell Summer Music Series website for WMP version of Nevilles and other weekend concert performances. I especially like the Richard Thompson show!

The RT show was amazing, but I have found those recordings to suck. It keeps stopping and starting for me, and I have a very fast internet connection.
