Just wanted to let everyone know I have posted a slideshow from last weekends Satchmo Fest in the Gallery section of my website. As usual, I make my work available in print format or museum wrapped canvas at reasonable prices. I can customize orders to your liking! Contact info is on the "about" section of the site! Very, very nice work native.

I know envy is one of the "10" but damn, I wish I was there in person

Truly great pix. Mine aren't bad, but no contest, yours put mine to shame. Sometimes I tell myself when I see the better pix, "oh, well I could do that too if I had a photo pass", but clearly not the case here, Satchmo had no photo pits.

Can I ask, do you post them as taken, or do you do any editing/touching-up first? Or is it just a good eye, good equipment, and years of experience?

Also, your 2nd and 3rd shots reminded me, I don't think anyone has related this story yet. During his set, Shamarr brought out a small boy. He said the kid had seen him play somewhere and was fascinated with Shamarr's horn. So, in the middle of the Satchmo set, Shamarr brought the kid out and gifted him with a new trumpet. Very, very moving.

Thanks for that story, swag.

GREAT photos, native!!!

I see the sign lettering lady is busy year round.

That trumpeters set looks amazing. So sorry to have missed that. You can see how much Shamarr loves getting the kids into the music.. the look on his face when the kid tries out the horn is beautiful.

Yea, that "Shamarr moment" was someting else, especially when the little boy couldn't make a sound, Shamarr encouraged him and voila, the first trumpet sound of a future legend, truly magical! Shamarr is one who walks the walk, truly emulating the spirit of Louis Armstrong. He is one of the most talented and genuine people I know and a good friend. As far as the images, I have good equipment, passion, and do crop some of the images. Some very minor adjustments done sometimes. Major editing is too confusing and involved, having the right equip helps....Thanks for the comments! Jerry

Yes, she does Jazzfest, Satchmo, FQF.

More on the sign lady:

After clicking to the WWOZ page, scroll down, it's near the bottom of page 1.

After his set, I saw Shamarr leaving the Fest carrying his sign with him, as a souvenir, I guess. :)

Hey Swag (sorry for the hijack, Jerry) do you know if she does the Exit to Mystery St. sign as well? I need one of them for my apartment. :D

I don't know, but my guess would be no. It's a very different font (http://jazzfest.swagland.com/2004/photo20040424.htm).

Yes, Shamarr is definitely one who does "walk the walk." That's why you'll find that this group (the posters on this board) supports him in a number of his endeavors like the Silence is Violence Music Clinics with money and donated instruments. Some of us have even financed his next cd through Threadhead Records.

Next time you see him tell him his "gray-haired mama" says "Hello!" :D

I have more pix of the trumpet gift in my Satchmo album (http://swag.shutterfly.com). The pix aren't as well done, of course.

Shamarr has many good friends on this board, Jerry. :) But, you are very correct, he does "walk the walk". You should join us at the music clinics he teaches when they start up again in September. Guaranteed great shots there, especially of the kids, who will break your heart.
