If you know someone in New Orleans, they can buy for you at the Arena for a surcharge of $2 perticket. I just checked and tickets are onsale with ticketbastard now. Several folks are buying at the gate-$45. Just a few more than their price and it all goes to the foundation.

By Arena do you mean the Superdome or did they move ticket sales?
or are you just in hockey mode?

From the press release:

Tickets can be purchased in person at the Jazz Fest ticket office located at New Orleans Arena, 1501 Girod Street. Tickets to Jazz Fest are on sale by specific weekend, with each ticket valid for a single day’s attendance.

Some of us locals are going to post a thread in mid-february and offer to go over to the areana to purchase the tickets for all you out of town folks - then we'll mail them out.....keep a lookout for the thread, it will have all the details with the date that we'll purchase - save some of you out of town folks a few $$$$ (that won't go to ticketmaster)

i had a problem sending them out with USPS last year. i suggest paying/charging the extra to do 3-day or whatever. i think i did the certified last year, and one of the sets was still lost for several days. it could be tracked - it was sitting at a post office. people had to hunt them down. it ws scary.
could we possibly have a meet up on 1st thursday night in NOLA? venue of your choice.
and paypal could be an option, but you would have to do a commercial account for that kind of $$$ to come thru. but i would be willing to pay the extra 3% (i think that's the %) to cover that cost. no checks lost in the mail.
but if we get too formal ticket monster will probably slap an injuction on us.
last hint - hope you're good with an excel spreadsheet. the final $$$ value will scare you. not sure you want to be walking around with many thousands of dollars of you. 30 people x 3 x 37 = 3330. that's a very light estimate.

Hello, I see where some of the locals are willing to help get tickets out to others. If so when will that be available? Also in the years past I heard that people could go on line and down load a mail order form for tickets. Does anyone know if this option will be available this year? Thanks for the help

Here's the cheapest way: Group tickets can be purchased at the foundation for $33.25 a ticket plus $5 for the whole bunch of tickets. Must be purchased as separate groups for each weekend with a minimum of 50 tickets. So that's $1667.50 for 50 tickets. Must be cash or money order or one other form I can't remember. Call the foundation office for details.

I despise giving ticketmaster any of my money. If the 50 ticket per weekend group purchase is true, I'd be willing to co-ordinate the buy for festers comming from my area. Personally I only need 6 on the 1st wknd and 4 on the second. That only leaves 44 & 46 upto the rest of you. Leave a note on this thread and if it shows enough interest I'll devise a plan.

I definitely need 3 for the first and three for the second for sure. Probably also need an additional 3 for the first and 10 for the second. I'll know more soon.

Group tickets are available with permission. I'm still willing to co-ordinate the purchase. It must be completed by April 13th so this must happen fast. I need commitment for 50 each weekend before I start, I don't want to be out-of-pocket at the end of this. We also need a way to protect each party. Perhaps I'll set up a paypal account. If more interest is shown we can work out the details.

paypal has a limit (500 a month?) that can be received without fee.
also consinder how you will distribute these tickets. you will need to charge for what ever service you you use to 'mail' them. and realize you cannot insure for lost tickets in the US mail. not sure where fed ex stands on it. so if stuff is lost for a while and shows up after fest - someone is just out their money.

if you wait until the 13th you probably will not have time to mail them. you'll be lucky to get them much before fest. you can pay to have fest fed ex them to you. i suggest you do that.

sorry to sound so negative, but i've done this a few times, and i know there are a lot of headaches attached. and to get permission, i thought you needed to be some type of non-profit group/organization.

So, coming in first weekend, Thursday morning, I should be able to get first weekend tics at the arena without a problem?

(That's my dumb question for the day, but I just want to make sure I understand since I've ordered them from Jazz Fest directly before).

If you are only going second weekend, would it not make sense to only buy 2 of the 3 days for the actual fest since you can't count on the rain factor?

Wouldn't buying all 3 days ahead of time be foolish?

Foolish would be jinxing us all by using the r##n word. ;)

I think there has only been one day of Fest in the last decade that was cancelled due to weather. Some others where you might have gotten wet, but the music played on.

you used the R word. 5 minute no-posting time out for you! ;)

if less than ideal conditions would keep you away from the fairgrounds, then only buy 2 and pay more if you need another.
but in the last 20+ years, only 2 days have been cancelled.

if fact, you should definitely only get 2. then the weather is sure to be glorious.

1st day of fest 1991, and a day 2nd weekend 2004 (thursday or friday?).

in 1991, they allowed 1st weekend tickets to be used 2nd weekend - although i doubt they ever do that again.

there are no refunds.
