I haven't seen it discussed here yet, but SAB Miller and Molson Coors have finalized a transaction to combine their US operations.

Now, Miller has had exclusive rights at Jazzfest for many years, so only their brands are sold. But it was after SAB purchased Miller several years ago that Pilsner Urquel (an SAB brand) made its first appearance at Fest. So it seems plausible that the Molson/Coors brands sold in the US are now at least a possibility.

Those brands (http://www.millercoors.com/our-beers/great-beer.aspx)include lots of light lagers like Coors & Coors Light & Molson Canadian, plus a few specialties like Killians and Zima.

In fact, Killians Irish Red is both my wish, and my prediction. As a red, it's enough different than the other offerings - there are no red, amber, or darks currently available at the Fest - to justify adding the option. It's available in cans. And it's not a bad tasting brew.

(Yes, we all want to see Abita sold at the Fest, but business reality is, that ain't happening anytime soon).

Speaking of beer, how about the purchase of Budweiser by a Belgian company over the weekend?? Does this mean that Bud doesn't exist now?

The brand exists, just the corporate entity is subsumed. As noted, a South African company bought Miller several years ago. Does Miller still exist?

You might just need to learn to pronounce it Boodt!

I just hope they don't to anything to the factory by Newark in NJ. That BUD/Flying Eagle sign has been there since I can remember. Whenever I land at Newark and see that sign, I know I am home...

The more choices the merrier, I say. And I certainly wouldn't mind a red or amber choice!

If Miller still wants to be the beer of record for Jazzfest, you won't see Coors. Molson is a good possibility- it's different enough, ala Fosters. I'd like to see Killians too. I think a lot of people aren't aware that it's made by Coors.

I guess it depends on Bud's production capacity and the real estate values in Newark. When Miller bought Stroh's, little time was wasted before the century old brewhaus and the rest of the plant in Detroit were closed, demolished and on their way to a new condo development.
Course, the Falstaff plant stood in the middle of NOLA for years after it closed and now it's condos. I sort of doubt Bud (of Boodt,) would want to leave the sign up for decoration on the condos.

I'm glad I'm not a beer snob. I know this is horrible to say but I don't like dark beers for the most part and otherwise it all taste the same to me.

(ducks and runs for cover/)

:p

I do like Pilsner Urquell but that's not real dark.

Hey now--- Those ice cold draft (16 ounces) Pilsner Urquell are a godsend!!! If you show a little generousity at the tip jar, you might even find yourself with a free refill or two....... Hope everyone is well, and having a FUNKY summer, Matthew

Better than Killian's on a hot humid day would be Blue Moon which is owned and made by Coors. But I doubt they'll serve us anything beside the 4 light lagers we already have a choice of.

The Natty Boh (National Bohemian beer) guy decorates some condos in Baltimore. :)

STOP!!!!! Besides, it is Newark, Route 1...right by the airport. Can't imagine condo's there....
I would be the petition signer and instigator in stopping that...

I found that to be the case for sure. Tips are rewarded. But again I had to imbibe without supporting Ms. Lena. That only happened by the tents:o .

Killians would be awsome. Great taste and not to heavy for an amber.

Nothing could be more refreshing than sucking down a few few Zima's on a hot festival afternoon. Mmmmmmmmmm Zima.
