Jazzfest fans in the area, may want to check out this festival, this weekend:
http://www.providencesoundsession.com/
There's activities all week in many different venues, culminating on Saturday with events in downtown Providence:
6pm starts with Maurice Brown in Waterplace park
then a jazz vocalist (John Hendricks) and some other festivites, including a masquerade/ parade at 10 pm, with the Hot Tamale Brass band and Revolutionary Snake ensemble and What Cheer Brigade... and some other bands...it has a kind of Caribbean /Carnival theme
Troy starts at midnight but looks like there's enough activities to keep us going 'til then.
I have never been to this festival before, because it has usually been held a week later when I'm at Greyfox.... so can't speak from experience just what I've read in the local paper and on the website, but should be a good time.
