I haven't been on the chat boards much today...so perhaps this has been posted already. I had heard they were going to play, but I hadn't seen the date until now. The actual date they will be playing is on Sunday, May 6

TY, Chris. Sounds like it could be some bad FOMS for Harry Jr. fans, but maybe not. When do the cubes come out?

Hmmm.... wonder if that means they'll play same time as Harry Conick, on the opposite stage? FOMS FOMS FOMS.....

Me too, Amy.
This will be only the second time Steely Dan has played in Louisiana.
1st was in Shreveport, in 1973. This is so cool. Me gotta go pee now.

They would most likely come on right before Harry at the Acura.... There is no way they close the Sprint...

That's what I was thinking -- how terrific that will be if it happens! :D

Yall stop teasing! I thought that, too, and then said nahhh, that would be too good to be true. Too perfect. Heaven. :D

First, I must make a disclaimer....I am probably NOT going to make it down this year (and of course all of you who will, thereby suck! ;) ) but, with that out of the way, and now understand, I am a big Steely Dan fan, BUT, even in their prime, they had the reputation of being an amazing studio band and a LOUSY live band.
Just thought it might help out the FOMS.......

Here's one for the dictionary:
Acute paracubitus syndrome.
Suffered by some that attempt (often in vain) to anticipate the performers, stages and times that will actually happen at Jazz Fest.
I know I suffer from this, but overall IJDM :)

Got to disagree -- I've seen them live. They were terrific.

If it makes your feel better, okay. But not true. When they come to your neck of the woods, do not miss them. Saw Donald Fagen solo last year - great show as well.

Up here in cold cold Canada, we don't see the Dan much, if at all. I am unbelievably excited to get the opportunity, and prolly won't be at all judgemental if they just show up, plug in and do one or two hits. I am SO easily amused...

Absolutely Untrue!! Seen them at least six times between 2000 and last year and they blow their Studio work out of the water. with a different band each tour. Check out their website and look at past lineups if they have them posted there ... sure you could google it if not. Not only that, but I would expect some NOLA talent to be part of that.
The stigma you speak of was true in the 70's because they were just two guys and the record company made them tour and they didnt quite get it ... now they do

Man, I caught Steely Dan a couple of years ago in Toronto and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life! Their extremely high standards in selecting studio players are well documented, so believe me when I say that their touring band is top notch...they HAVE to be. Even the back up singers were among the most famous in the biz!
Of course, Steely Dan is all about the music. If your version of a "good concert" is someone biting the head off a bat, then they're probably not for you! If, on the other hand, you want to marvel at just how tight a band can be...they're the bomb!

Say this is no true guys. The only day I cannot make this year is the last Sunday. Steely Dan are #1 on my must see list having loved them for years and never having had the chance to see them. Bummer!

awwww Biller, that sucks big time :(
You guys are saying them closing one of the stages but if Harry is closing Acura and the Rads usually close Sprint....where would they play? I don't think they'll be at the same time. I bet it will be SD and then Harry on Sunday.

Corona, that would be fantastic, can you also arrange that The Allmans, George Benson, Counting Crows and Allen Tousaint avoid Sunday please;) Then I will be fairly happy while hanging around Dallas FW airport waiting my flight back across the pond. Apart from my Sunday worries, the line-up is awesome.

I am more than happy to hear that Steely Dan is good live. That is great as I will seek them out in NY if I don't make it to the fest this year. I was just citing a reputation that they definitely had in their hey day. And no festival gal, I was not doing it to make myself feel better.....just sharing info.

With them making the Sprint stage as big as the Acura stage, my guess is that
they'd put the Radiator's right before the Allman Brothers. Like they did last year. Rad's/Allmans would be great that Sat!

Now that sounds perfect. If that is the case, I will plant myself there for sure.

For old SD, I recommend Citizen Steely Dan (box set). Of the new albums, I like Two Against Nature the best. Much of the recent Donald Fagen and SD stuff sounds pretty similiar.

I can't disagree more! Steely Dan is fabulous live. Saw them 5 months ago...Just tremendous musicianship! They did mostly older stuff ( from Can't Buy a Thrill, Royal Scam, Aja, but did some from Two Against Nature). They played with Michael McDonald, who opened, and then played with them at the end doing songs when he played with them in the 70s (Kid Charlemagne and he sang lead on Do it Again. Fabulous show! Do not miss. Unfortunately I will as I am coming 1st weekend.

My input for Harry ... "She" and "Star Turtle" are some my faves - those 2 are more from the Funk Harry ... "Blue Light Red Light" is a good one too. OH! another personal fave is "Songs I Heard" ... his rendition of children's show tunes. It's fab! he has so much out there! He is multi-facited(sp?) and he's HOT!:D

I've never been a fan of Steely Dan. As my husband used to say, it sounded like music without balls.
But it's good to hear that they are better now than in the old days. And better live than in the studio. Might have to check 'em out.

I hear ya Neen.....when I got in the car after studying the lineup all morning, the first song on the radio was a SD song..I started cracking up cuz I haven't heard them in ages.....not my bag at all. Sorry guys.....the thought of the Allmans and Rads back to back would be jam friggin heaven though!!! I would be beside myself with that one :D
