Vic, I was talking with Sal about Fiorella's on another thread, but it closed after fest. Banzai bought one of their neon signs at a junk sale the last time he was here.

LMAO at Rooney's....I swear I typed P.S. Rooney's dosn't count... and then thought, that dosn't sound right! Hit the backspace key.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhio!

Verti Marte, classic, cost no object choice. Mary started refusing to go with us when we insisted on using the trash can out front as our table.

This thread is going perfectly. Giving me all the new ideas I couldn't come up with myself.

In a city full of great food:

Brigtsen's, if money is no object. (And even if it is, you should go here anyway. They have early-bird specials that are to die for.)

Mandina's, really good and inexpensive.

I'll put in another vote for Mandina's. Tried it this year for the first time, and loved it. Very reasonably priced too.

La Petite Grocery - Uptown

Praline Connection - best red beans & rice and sausage and cornbread for a cheap meal that'll really stick to your ribs and conveniently located on Frenchmen Street

(Some friends swear by Upperline, but the meal I had there several years ago was very mediocre -- the dishes were equivalent to those at The Gumbo Pot and about 5 times more expensive.)

Tough one funkk. I guess Reconcile - The shrimp creole was outstanding. But I really loved the opportunity to chat with Leah Chase, and hear her stories and philosophy of life. She is such an inspiration, and has had quite a life!

Cheap eats: Quartermaster (quiet end of Bourbon, a block from Lafitte's). Big Ass Sandwiches served with bone-chillin' attitude.

Moderate-to-upper end: Jacque-imo's (Oak St). I know this place is dissed a lot but I love it. I even bought Frenchy's print of Jacque-imo's kitchen and hung it up in my dining room.

Cheap Eats - Cafe Maspero (can't believe I'm the first to mention it - lots of food, insanely cheap, and $2 Abita Ambers!)

Expensive Eats - no idea. I'm cheap.

Michelino - I had the surf n' turf at Johnny's for the first time this year and it was outstanding! It's definitely high on my list for next year.

I ate at Johnny's this year too but did not see that surf and turf special. Definitely would have tried it if I had--I'm especially a big fan of debris (who isn't?). We went on Monday after realizing--again--that Central Market is closed on Mondays (I must have made that mistake at least three times now). Since we had muffaletta on the mind, we tried the muffaletta at Johnny's and were not at all disappointed; it was awesome. We also split the shrimp po' boy, so, I guess if you consider the combination, I made my own surf and turf special. Thus reinforcing Johnny's motto: "Even my failures are edible." Will definitely look for the real surf and turf special next time though.

My second favorite pastime during jazz fest is the noshing around! I have been hitting K-Pauls everytime I come to Nawlins and have never been disappointed! Getting past the bread, the jambalya, peppered steak, all superb. Last year, they had a lightly fried oyster appetizer that was to die for!

Also, I enjoy any of Emeril's restaurants even though they are pricey. They make fab Bloody Marys!

Camilla grill is always an experience!

I would like to find more reasonably priced jewels this time but its hard to deviate from what you know is good and not attainable in Tucson!

Clancy's was the best meal I've ever had in NOLA. Very impressive.

I had the fried oysters in brie and the softshell. I can't believe I had never heard of the place. I'm pretty sure I tasted most all of the apps. Zero complaints re: the food/wine.

The only negative was sitting and waiting at our table for 45 minutes for our first round of drinks which was a bit frustrating for 7 guys but after the waiter got to us, everything was great. I can't imagine ever going back without trying to get a reservation here. That good.
