I keep losing that damn thread!! So I've posted another....

Okay, so who is in?
Has the lineup come out yet?
Do we know who's playing the Strut Friday night?

Umm....so EXCITED!!!!

We'll be there Friday til Wed. and are taking a couple of days touring the gulf coast before we go back home. Any suggestions of what we should check out? Love the beach and funky cool little places. Also want to pay my respects to the towns of Waveland, Bay St. Louis etc. that were devastated by the Thing.

I'll be at Satchmo, Friday through Sunday.

Glad to hear you're going to visit the the coast. Mississippi is coming along. They've done a good job of cleaning up. Much of it is brand new, but there's still plenty of scars.

Between the casinos there (Miss.) and the condos and development here (Ala.), the funky little places are harder to find. But if you make it as far as Alabama, let me know. There are still some cool places to go.

Have you ever done a swamp tour. Greg and I did one as part of our travelling along the coast from NOLA to Biloxi. (pre-Katrina) This is the one we did -- http://www.honeyislandswamp.com/swampmap.html

You guys are bloody everywhere! :D Looking forward big time to next weekend.

Corona... you could visit Tangled/Jude's mama in Waveland. I'm sure she would make you welcome and give you an insight into the happenings of the past coupla years.

Enjoy Satchmo!

We will be there. Satchmo last year was the kidlet's first time in NOLA. She is determined to return as often as possible and has already announced her plans to attend Tulane. Told her to work hard for scholarship money as she has expensive tastes.

Try to find Lil' Rays Seafood in Waveland(then let me know where it is). Best crawfish po boy I ever had. Wash it down with a bottle of Barqs and you're in roadfood heaven.

Expect to be bummed out by the beach. Since it's all mostly a shallow bay, it was never much to begin with but at least there were all those charming houses and shops. We followed the path of the storm and that reminded me of all the pictures of Hiroshima. Nothing standing but bare trees and by bare I mean stripped of the bark.

Hey Corona, I LOVE going out to Ship Island. You catch the ferry in Gulfport and have a 45 minute ride out. You will see plenty of dolphins on the way. Ship Island has white sand beaches, clear blue water and an old fort to check out.

Corona, I can't make Satchmo this year. Already have tix for another show on the 23rd. Wish I could be there for the Frenchman St. Strut and everything. :) Looks like I will most likely be there. I went last year for the first time, and it had been a while since I went to New Orleans in the summer. But, needless to say I had a wonderful time. I always take some time off in the summer, and usually go someplace else. And I was thinking of different places, and maybe some new destination....but Satchmo Fest was definitely on my mind. I'm getting concerned that I won't be seeing any other places if I keep taking my vacations in New Orleans:o But, you all know the story....I just keep getting drawn back....and with pleasure!! So, I put in for leave for a little over a week (just happened to be Satchmo Fest weekend, in CASE I decided to go to New Orleans after all;) Looks like I will....don't have any reservations yet....sure hope I can get a good deal on Hotwire or Priceline...after all it's summer! I would be there from the Sunday before till Monday after.

I hear ya Bruce, if I never 'found' New Orleans I would have traveled the globe twice over by now. O'h well, all those places pale in comparison. The last time I took a vacation that was not in N.O. was in 1994 when I took a cruise ( "it was free, otherwise I would have gone to...." ). I remember going to Colorado once to hike with my girlfriend, all I kept thinking was we should have gone to New Orleans. Hey, whatever gets you to that happy spot in your soul.

So true, Greg! A great time can ALWAYS be guaranteed, and I always feel so good when I'm there. I do love to travel however. Probably a trip to another country would do it....but I can't afford that right now, so I'll just have to settle for Satchmo Fest:D

Wow, Leni....you sound like me!;) But I have been to some other places and enjoyed myself....but no place has tugged at my heart like N'Awlins. And it is the only place where I go through withdrawals after leaving. Departure day is very hard on me.:(

As far as Satchmo Fest goes, I am having trouble finding a good fare. The connection that I usually take out of Key West via Miami is $690.00 roundtrip!! And I don't want anything that's going to get me into N.O. real late, and preferrably no real early departures on the return. Those are the cheaper fares however. So, I'm going to hold out a little longer and maybe I'll luck out. Also, package deals on Priceline, Hotwire and the others are NOT what they were last year. Everything is higher.....and a good deal is hard to find. I still have some time though.

What about coming in late the day before you intended to arrive so you won't miss anything? If your lodging is cheap enough, an extra night might not make a difference if your airfare is low enough as well.

Mariena, have you been there recently? My daughter & I were there in '06. Due to the 'canes, the sand was not snow-white, as I recall. It used to look just like snow. I guess a lot of gray sand got stirred up and washed in. I wasn't disappointed, though. Still, it is very beautiful. The water is such a gorgeous color there.

And, you're right, even though there was rebuilding going on at that time, it still isn't too over developed. There is a public beach where my daughter spend the entire afternoon with not another soul in sight.

Hey, We go there a couple times a year, only a 45 minute drive from our home. I can't recall that the sand is grey, but then I am not the most observant person in the world. I will check it out in a couple of weeks when we go over to watch the Blue Angels fly and will post a report. It is still a gorgeous place, just don't remember about the sand now that you mention it.

We spent 2 months in exile in Pensacola in 9/05.. at that time there was some serious work going on where they were pumping in new sand from offshore and rebuilding the beaches and dunes. Maybe the newly pumped sand is not as bleached?? But on our trip last year 9/07 the sand was as beautiful as ever!! Sometimes they have events which cause it to turn (red tide, etc.)

I think too the further you travel east, Destin, Panama City the whiter it gets.

Seguenon Kone and the Cote d'Ivoire Invasion
10 p.m. Fri., July 11
Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak St., 866-9359

In June, West African percussionist Seguenon Kone played a series of gigs, drum circles and workshops in New Orleans that were so well received, word has it he's decided to become a permanent resident. All the better for us: The dancer/fire-eater/multi-instrumentalist's shows are a lively spectacle, showcasing his mastery of many traditional African instruments — balafon, doundoun, djembe, atougblan, shekere, other unfamiliar percussive items and castanets. He also plays flute, dances and, yes, eats fire. Kone helped found the performance troupe Le Ballet Ivoire Spectacle, is a former member of the Ballet National of the Ivory Coast, and a respected teacher of drums and dance. Tickets $10. — Alison Fensterstock

I hope we can still make it. We've had some tough news this past week. My mother in law has terminal cancer. We're probably going to have to miss it but that's the way it goes. To top it off, I get home last night after being gone for a week dealing with all of this and a tree has fallen through the kitchen. Just what I need to deal with right now, a big hole in my house.

When it rains, it pours.

Prayers and karma out to you and yours, McG. Repairing a roof on top of that news just don't seem fair. Here's to better days.

Sorry to hear that your hands are so full of unpleasantness. Hope you roof is covered by now and that your mom-in-law is not suffering. I will miss seeing all of you Snatch/Sweatmo attendees this year as I will be in NJ that week, spending time with family. Looking forward to catching up in November.

Ah - HA!! That proves it!! Lis always makes the upstairs coffee!!! ;)
Yup, as far as upstairs goes....I'm definitely the first one up.....then I head out onto the patio to smoke with Q.....she's downing diet cokes and I'm downing coffee lol.

Love that pic of Eat-Mo....that's the same morning that I fell asleep sitting up with a smoke in my hand after drinking a bloody and then proceeded to throw up when the chicken livers were served at Praline Connection later that morning lol! Ah, good times :)

I'm praying that Ed and I are going to make Satchmo too. My dad is in really bad shape and has been in intensive care on a ventilator since last wed. night. He flatlined at emerg and the docs still don't know why or if it's cancer related. He now has a tracheotomy breathing with the ventilator and he's not stable yet. It's been hell. That's why I haven't been around at all. Had a few minutes to drop in and try to catch up and have a mental break this morning. Off to the hospital soon for our friggin daily vigil. Any karma you can send north would be HUGELY appreciated cuz we're scared shitless.

Take care...will add our prayers to the rest here. We have had two close relatives who were in similar situations in the past few months and spent a few days walking the halls outside intensive care. Both eventually got off the ventilators, out of the ICU and back to their lives and we hope for the same for your dad.

(((((LIS))))))) Wow I am so sorry:( ... I haven't been on the board that much lately either. My Grandmother passed last week, she was 90. Went quick too. We just put her into an assisted living facility she was there for a week, didnt feel good one morning, started to look really bad, so they sent her to the hospital... She died in the ambulance on the way there. Her health was fairly good up to then? So she didn't suffer long.

But you are 100% right about 62 being way too young! We will be sending good karma and prayers to your dad and everyone else involved. My father in law had a very similar experience about 2 years ago... They didn't think he was going to make it either...And the doctors had no clue....He made a turn for the better one day, and it just kept going! He's back to normal now and doesn't remember much of his ordeal in the hospital. Even though your dad might look like he's suffering a lot now, when he turns that corner and gets out of the hospital, hopefully he wont remember the bad times either.

Been there several times and we will pray for the best. And as I mentioned, we have seen two miraculous recoveries after each person spent a few weeks in the ICU so I firmly believe that these are possible. In the case of a dear cousin in March, we were camped in the waiting room on and off for nearly three weeks, I'm not quite sure that she ever got an answer as to why she had fallen into a coma and needed the respirator. But she is home and happy now....there was a time that looked impossible.

IMO, asking other people for their love and good wishes in a time of need, is not selfish Lis...it is just trusting your friends.

I know I keep saying thank you over and over again but I really am so thankful. The meeting yesterday went okay....doc says dad is doing a "bit better which is better than a bit worse". He said my dad's case is complicated in a number of ways but they are making progress bit by bit and are on top of every new development...they just need to get him to respond to the antibiotics for sepsis and cellulitis (around his tracheotomy). This is what the docs are calling his infection and it's scary friggin stuff!
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8307

BUT, he's been breathing off the ventilator for almost a day and a half now and that's fantastic. All tests are coming back clear except for the infection test...but still that's awesome news. SO baby steps and being grateful for even the tiniest of miracles. I do believe in Threadhead karma and I KNOW all the positive vibes and prayers are working.

Aww thanks you guys! I love the stories about people who have survived all this shit.

Dad had an AWESOME day today....sitting up in a chair and we watched Lady Sings the Blues (I bought it for him for father's day). He watched quite a bit of it....when it comes to Diana Ross.....dad will pay attention lol! He's totally breathing on his own now and all he asks for over and over again is for ice cream lol. (He can't talk or eat cuz of the trach) Talked to him alot today about the need to keep fighting and how much progress he's making. He seemed to get it and I'm so damn proud of him!! My mantra...baby steps...baby steps......
Thanks everyone....I truly believe the karma is working!!
Love you all xoxoxo

Wonderful news Lisa! Just wondering, did you happen to call the Prayer Ministry?

Jimmy played at this week's Wednesday on the Point (along with Amanda Walker)....he was freakin' fantastic! His sound was just amazing....sounded like two or three people at once....his version of "Kashmir" was killer...It's not dance music, but it was a great performance! :D

Are there evening hours?

LOL!! Yep, usually that twilight time between the fest and nighttime activites, when people are taking turns getting getting showered (try as we might, we've never been able to get more than 3 people in there at the same time!) folks are "holding down" the patio and perusing the ice chest. ;)

LOL! Is that one of those shower thingies? I actually think folks like sitting around, waiting their turn, visiting & such. :)

It reminds me of that first Festgiving. We had just gotten power back the day before our 7 houseguests arrived, but we didn't have gas back yet. David went out & bought a lil bitty 50 gallon electric hot water heater, so we could have hot water. (He had planned to run it off the generator, if needed.) Folks reallllly had to wait for a shower then, maybe 20 or 30 minutes. But it was ok, fun even. :)

No cost involved. Only a donation if you wish to donate. They are a non-denominational group of prayer practitioners, I think loosely affiliated with the Church of Religious Science, which has nothing to do with Christian Scientists or Scientology, but is based on positive thinking and metaphysics -- how our thoughts are very powerful, which is why prayer is very powerful ... you should definitely give them a call. They will do a "healing" prayer for your dad with you over the phone. Here's their website: www.wmop.org (800/421-9600).
