Yeah...If they had "Best New Jazz Performer", he could be already writing his Grammy acceptance speech....Still, he's got some pretty heavy competition for "Best Contemporary Jazz Album", last year's Billboard cover not withstanding. If he wins on Feb 11th, they just gotta pencil him in for this year's fest. From what I see on myspace, it doesn't appear that he's been playing with his uncle's band since the Detroit Jazz Fest....But I would not be surprised if he's there anyway. BTW, he has a pretty groovy take on "Cissy Strut" on his myspace page

We were fortunate to have Westbank Mike relocate here in Houston after the storm. Never heard of him until he started showing up at the Blues Jams and giging with his band here in Houston. Not sure, but I think he might be back in New Orleans now. It would be great to see him get a spot out at the Fair Grounds. Will be checking the clubs during JF for Westbank Mike and the Fisher Project for some downhome Blues.
I thought Ry Cooder might play this year. He has a new cd out in early March and he produced and plays on the new Mavis Staples cd which is supposed to be out sometime in April. I was hoping for he and Mavis to do a set at the 'fest. I wish the festival would do more "special" acts like the Rosetta Thorpe tribute or the blues harp summit from a couple of years ago. Getting back to Ry Cooder, the last time he played Jazzfest was around 1994 or '95. He and Ali Fakre Toure had just released a fabulous cd so Ry played a set with Ali Fakre Toure and then later in the day closed out the Professor Longhair stage with David Lindley. One of my finer days at Jazzfest.

Hell, Slim Whitman is still alive !

I just received an email from Charles Neville and he told me that The Meters are playing at JF this year.
Maybe a night show? I will have to ask him.

man I really hope there is an evening Meters show during the second weekend. I guess this is a possibility as they played a superfly show last year and superfly has yet to announce their shows.
my fingers are crossed

This thread should really go to sleep. The final additions were made a few weeks ago - with the addition of Joe Krown and a few others so pointing out who's not playing isn't going to get them on. As is always the case, everybody can't play every year and with the Festival still down a day there are even less slots than the old days. Hopefully you can see Kim Carson at a club gig during the Fest. The Meters aren't performing this year at the Fair Grounds.

I heard that Dave Matthews, Jimmy Buffett and the Beatles are going to be added to the Fest schedule. This will also result in the first ever Fest to be sold out.

I'm still waiting for the Messiah. Let me know when he/she gets added, okay Festy Dave?

I believe we were only speaking about the Meters playing at one of the night shows. I am quite happy with everything jazzfest has to offer every year!
I thought Quint said at the press conference there was one more big name act to be added to take things over the top. Have I missed something?

nope, I thought I heard the same thing. When do we find out about these new additions? When the daily lineups come out? Still hopin' the Underdawgs made it on there.

Has anyone seen any mention of Spencer Bohren playing anywhere during fest?

Schedule-wise, Spencer is available to play except for first Friday and Saturday.

The Nevilles...sigh.
I would have loved to have seen the Charles Neville Jazz Ensemble though!
(For what it is worth, I just received an update from Pollstar about two new Nevilles dates for 2007 (Feb 18th in Beaumont, TX and April 27th in Scottsdale, AZ) You think if they could do a Scottsdale gig on April 27th, they could have...ah, never mind.:>)
When he played Bob's Southern Bistro (in Beantown) on MG, he said he had a gig in the Boston area during JF! Figures me and MRG are down there, and he'll be up here:( !! Timing is everything!
