Definitely going for both this year.
I may even try buying one of the expensive ones. Someone on this board a few months back said that is how he finances his fest trips each year. Buy one of the expensive ones, hold onto it for a few years, then sell it and use the huge profits to pay for fest.
Might look into that . . .

I LOVE the Rebirth one: one of the best ever.
For those asking if it's ok to keep them in tubes for an extended period: I finally took all of my unframed ones -- several years' worth -- to be framed. All were in PERFECT shape.
I went to a chain called Corners; I think they're national. If you watch your mail or their website, they periodically offer significant discounts. (Framing is one of those ripoff industries where they can seem like heroes by offering 40% discounts and still make a decent profit margin.)

Actually, the more I think about it, I don't think that is the way to go. I'd just be taking posters away from people who really want them. It would kind of make me feel like a scalper. Plus, you'd have to find that many more buyers when it is time to sell.
But if I just buy one of the more pricey ones, I'm not really hurting anyone.

It's ok to leave in a tube for a few years as long as it is not subject to too much humidity. I always store mine flat for a few years before I frame them. Definitely need a bigger house... at last count I had (122) framed pieces of art or photographs and only (3) are non-music/jazzfest/NOLA related. I plan to start rotating pieces as I have a finished area in my basement I use for overflow. I have about (50) pieces waiting to be framed.

Thanks Festvet... damn shame I live in the highest humidity area in Oz (for a few months of the year). Gotta rethink this 'cos it won't fit in the wine fridge!
Would it be better to get it framed and store it that way?

The best way to store any piece of art is flat, especially when it is rolled up in a tube that can yellow the poster over time due to the acid in the cardboard. Unrolling it will also lessen the chance of any small bends in the poster becoming larger.
I suggest that you store the poster flat between two acid free foam boards which you can purchase at any frame shop. Make sure it is acid free. This is the best alternative to framing in my opinion.
When you frame any valuable piece of art, make sure you request all acid free materials so the print will not yellow over time.
Hope this helps.

I plan to start rotating pieces as I have a finished area in my basement I use for overflow. I have about (50) pieces waiting to be framed.I have a very large wall dedicated just to New Orleans posters (primarily JazzFest), and it's been full for years and has spread to adjacent walls. I now have an apartment in Boston (split with the ex) and a corporate apartment in NY, both of which are full of JazzFest posters. Next up are my Boston and NY offices. I have no idea what I'll do after that.

This is the best alternative to framing in my opinion.Although I agree that storing the posters flat is best, Art4Now does a great job of protecting the posters when they roll them for the tubes, covering the poster with what I assume is acid-free paper before rolling it. When I recently unrolled several years of posters to have them framed, they all were in mint condition.

On line orders are not actually delivered until well after the fest, but this is the way I've always done it and never have had a problem. I just can't see waiting in that line and then having to schlep the posters around, although many here report that they buy them at the Fest and immediate ship them out using the shipping services available at the Fairgrounds. But for me, it still seems that a few clicks on the keyboard is far easier than any other option.

I agree with Ross, but I'm not sold on the Congo Square one either, though I love Tuba Phil, Rebirth and pretty much all things tuba except my own lousy attempt at playing one. Blitzz, I really like the colours (and the content) of the Tuba Phil Congo Square poster. It doesn't have the text on it yet, but if you look at the colours of the sky mixed with the gold of the tuba, I think it would just pop right off the wall!
As for JLL, I haven't changed my opinion. While I'm sure the artist is excellent and the colours on the final version might be nice, I just don't feel it's in the same league as the Michaelopolis ones of late....

Ive got so many of these posters waiting to be framed- about 20- that im seriously considering buying a mat cutter and doing them myself. Initial investment of 400-500, and you will be able to mat and frame anything. Of course, its taken me 2 years to finish my deck, so its probably a really bad idea.

I always maintain a "one year max" strategy when it comes to framing the posters. Very simply, I make sure that I frame LAST year's fest poster before THIS year's fest rolls around!
Personally, I wouldn't recommend keeping them in the tubes for too long. The paper tends to dry out and the ink can flake off in chunks - not pretty! Whatever you do, make sure you take the poster out of the tube and inspect it carefully before putting away because there just might be a flaw in it. (Rare, but possible.) If you don't discover it until 3 years later, there's not much chance that Art4Now is going to make good on a replacement!

Festlover,
I would do some checking around before buying anything from NOJazzfestART.com. They do seem to have a pretty good stock, but those discounted prices are still on the high side of reality. I suppose it all depends on your cash position and your urgency, but I've never had a problem finding something they had for less, somewhere else. E-bay is a good bet, and for recent offerings, you can often find them for less in the galleries in New Orleans or their websites.

I believe there have been instances in the past where posters have sold out before the end of the Fest. It's unlikely that it will happen this year.

Definitely sold out in 1996 (Pete Fountain) and 2001 (Louis Armstrong) among others. 2001 I think sold out before second weekend.
The online sales are usually not cut off until early April, so it's not like you gotta order yours in the first hour they go onsale.
At the Fest, I'd say the numbered (cheapest) prints sell out more often than not. Sometimes first day, sometimes last day. Sometimes not at all. It's pretty hard to predict.

Just received an email from Art4Now...looks like posters will be available next week! :)
**********************************
The launch of the new A4N website has been pushed back by a week until
February 21st. Sorry for the delay, but we want it fully tested before
we go live. Rest assured, nobody is getting ahead of you in ordering
the 2007 Jazz Fest Poster by Francis X. Pavy featuring Jerry Lee Lewis,
or the 2007 Congo Square Poster by Terrance Osborne featuring Philip
Frazier of the ReBirth Brass Band. As of now, we feel really comfortable
with our February 21st launch date. Because you are special and took
the time to sign up for our email alert, if we go live before then,
we’ll send you, exclusively, a short email with a direct link to our new
and improved site.
Our delay has a silver lining for those of you interested in the '06
Congo Square Artist-Signed and Artist & Performer Signed editions: When
we have inventory of prior editions we normally revise their prices to
reflect the collector's market when we post the new year's images. Our
delay in posting the new work means you can still buy these two editions
at original publication prices - but only until the last one is sold or
next week, which ever comes first.
All the best,

Time of order normally does not mean you will get a low number. In fact, I almost always order my posters in the first week and I have yet to get a low number (below 1,000). I don't care about the number personally, but that's been my experience. I also think there is a statement on the art4now website that covers this topic.
The 2006 poster will probably go up in value every year. I don't think it matters one bit that Fats didn't play. That poster will sell for $1k in 2-3 years if not earlier.

I've called a dozen times, been told a dozen times that it was waiting to be processed. I gave up. They really don't care to help you when you call, just want to get you off the phone. Companies that have a one of kind product tend to be like that. I wish the contract would go up for bids....

Wow, Bry, I didn't know (remember?) that! I had an opposite experience with them. My 2002 poster came with the tube crushed & the poster inside cracked with the paint peeling. The lady I spoke to was real nice, gave me name & said to call her back if I didn't get a replacement in 10 days. I did & didn't have to send the damaged one back.
That sux about your poster, and it was Gate too. :(

Yeah, they acted like they didn't want my money. Promised to call me back several times (never did), I left messages that were never answered, senr emails that werte never answered, talked to everyone I was told to talk to, still no poster. after a year of periodically contacting them, figured it was just not meant to be. The last time we spoke, I complained that the double signed version I wanted had gone up in price and would they make me pay that. They said don't worry, you'll get it at the original price. Last time I ever heard from them.

Bryan....the Art4Now place is very near my office. I could go over there for you and try to sort it out in person. If so it might be better to do it pretty soon before they get all stupid crazy with the new ones. Let me know. I don't want to do that if you'd rather let it go.

So which poster to y'all like the best this year? I personally like the Congo better, but I'll probably buy both b/c I always buy the JF even if I don't have any plans on hanging it. I think the Congo will sell out before the JF this year.
Site's up, site's been redesigned. Still a bug or two, but order away!

THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS...HOPE IT IS A TEMPORARY GLITCH AT THE SITE.
Temporary Errors
There are temporary errors in this store.Error in createxml.asp, error: Permission denied - Err.Number:70 - SQL:SELECT orders.*,customers.*, creditcards.*, orders.shippingName AS name1, orders.shippingLastName AS name2 FROM orders, customers, creditcards where customers.idcustomer = orders.idCustomer and orders.idorder=creditcards.idorder and status=0 order by orders.idorder
If you want to obtain free technical assistance click here
I'd wait until tomorrow. It will not sell out in the first 12 hours.
In the meantime, there's a nice read on the history of the posters.

I want the CS poster, but I'm not sure which one. There is no desciption of each poster or how many in each group. Do you think that the poster labeled special will be signed by Terrance Osborne and Tuba Phil? The price is $329. That is plenty more than the last CS poster with the same deal, I think. Does anyone see any descriptions of each poster?

I tried to submit it again, and the same thing.......BUT I checked my e-mail, and I got confirmation of BOTH the orders, sooo, I guess it took. But now, I had to contact Art4Now by e-mail and left a message by phone to cancel one of the orders, so I'm not charged twice. Their phone message says the site opens at midnight New Orleans time, which is an hour away. So, in my excitement, it might cause a little hassle...but Amy and anyone else who gets that error message...check your e-mail because it probably went through!
CS is awesome! Bigeasy, I think the special is the double signed one, and YYR it is way high!

Ohio,
I bit the bullet and went for the special. I'm justifying the expense by not getting Pavy's. I'm hoping for a little lagniappe from Osborne. Maybe a special pencil drawing in the margin or something. Has anyone ever gotten the special CS poster? If so, Did it have anything other than the sigs at the bottom?
Buying my poster on the first day of sale makes me feel like I am that much closer to the Fest.

Same here. Uh, anybody need a poster? It seems I freaking ordered FOUR. Not a great way to start my day. I think I'm being tested on my attempt at Lenten cursing reduction.

Amy, I called Art4Now first thing this morning....the local number, not the toll-free number, and was able to speak to someone with no problem. She was aware of my being double-charged, as I'd left a voice mail and e-mail from last night. I followed up later in the day, and they deleted the second charge right then and there. Very pleasant people that I spoke with. I didn't think I'd be able to get through as they must've been so busy. I'm glad that's taken care of. I went for both JF and Congo Square posters because I didn't want any regrets if I decided on one and then wished I had the other. Can't go wrong ordering these great posters, which of course will only go up in value.

Well, I called the 800 number once and the local number once and got the machine both times. I left a detailed msg once but didn't get a return call. I'll check the Visa status again (as of today I was charged for two but hey that's better than 4) I'll try again in the morning. Then I'll go there in person tomorrow at lunch if I need to. I can check on Bry's problem at the same time.
Thanks for letting me know Bruce...makes me feel better!

You're more than welcome, LC and fellow Firefoxer!!! I don't know why, oh why so many web designers still insist on only configuring for I.E. - when the Fox is SO much better and more secure . . .
Sigh.
Well, at least you got your CS poster, cher!!!

The descriptions, size and number of prints are at the bottom of the write up, under Editions. $329 is the double-signed poster. I think last year's poster signed by just the artist was $200+ and the triple signed (Thomas, Boudreaux and Michael Smith was about $300+ if memory serves. Nothing gets less expensive with Jazz Fest, count on that!
The special editions sound interesting, but extremely expensive like the remarques and C-marques. Tempting, if they are bigger by a serious amount.
