I just got word today that I have been accepted to the Contemporary Crafts section of Jazz Fest for the 27th consecutive year!!!!!:D :D :D
I will be showing during the second week-end only ( they don't let us have both:( )
WHOO-HOO!!!
Now my dilemma is that I wanted to do a patry/meet-up in the tween week and the only available date is on Wed. I know that there are always going to be conflicts, but I hope that some of y'all can make it over here. I am thinking of Mimosas and having an open house for the whole day 9-5. I know that a few of y'all will still be a little "dodgey" from the Patry on Tuesday , but I'm sure that you can drag yourselves to the Ferry. We can even pick you up on this side if the eight block walk is too much!!!
I will be making the piece for the winner of my auction donation at this time. If you haven't seen blown glass artistry, you've gotta come!

WOO HOO!!!! :D
That's great news, Rosetree! I an very much looking forward to meeting you in person and seeing your great glass art!
I've done work in stained glass, but that's kid stuff compared to the gorgeous and complex work you do . . .
Not to mention, mimosas (or bellinis - hint, hint) in Algiers? Kitten's always up for that kind of fun!

wahoooo! congrats Rosetree! I'm gonna try hard to get over there...the only complication is I have to get Sam and Amanda off to the airport around 3 which kinda screws thing up especially if I have to get them up to pack. We'll see what we can do though okay? You guys HAVE to watch Rosetree at work. It's fascinating, relaxing and just plain cool :)

Excellent! We'll try to make it for sure (you had me at "mimosas") :)
Am thinking about rearranging volunteering times/options this year too, maybe Habitat for Humanity on Thursday instead of Animal Rescue on Wednesday, depending on how much help Animal Resue still needs, seems most animals should have been trapped and rescued by now?

Rosetree,
I know Algiers well. I used to go to church over there. Are you familiar with the First Baptist Church of Algiers on Opelousas Avenue? They moved to Baton Rouge after Katrina so I dont get to Algiers anymore. I live in Mobile, Alabama.

Hey Rosetree, I looked you up and found your site but I couldn't find your portfolio. I guess the net hasn't been my friend today. Do you have a link on your site to show photos of your work?
Tracey

Sorry we won't see you at Fest 1st weekend but look forward to the studio visit. Such a great thing to do. Cheers! Will you need a hand from any of us on the day. I'll likely be busy having a drink and looking at all your work, but I'm sure someone will volunteer! Seriously.... let us know.

Y'know Barry, I have been there for so many years, I just don't want to jinx it! What gets me is that someone like Irma doesn't have to send in an audition tape (I don't think), why don't they just designate a few booths a weekend for "Master Craftsmen" and let some of us not have to worry if we are in every year? ---my pet peeve----but I am always happy to be in!!!

Hey Mark around what time are you usually there on Saturdays? I'll try to get there in the next few weeks.

Amy: It varies....it depends on what comes up...usually I try to get there around 11:00 and leave around 1:00, but if you want to come over, give me a call and I can work the schedule around you! :D

I could be wrong, but I think I heard choir from this church in Gospel tent last year, and they were awesome. Maybe it was a very similar sounding name. I do remember the pastor inviting everyone to church services on Sunday in Algiers, so maybe it was a different church choir.

here's a funny story mariena---I do know the church, they were in the old Folley's theater on Opelousas, right? My studio is in a renovated Art deco movie theater three blocks away. Anyway... when I bought my theater it did not have any movie seats in it and I wanted some seats so people could watch us blowing glass sitting in real movie seats. I saw in the paper that someone was selling 100's of seats. I called them and it was that church. I asked them what was wrong with the seats, why were they selling them all? I was told that they were TOO comfortable and everyone was falling asleep during services!!!:D :D

Mark,
That is a funny story. The church was in an old theater, so it could be the same one. It is definitely not the choir that Terry saw in the Gospel tent last year. My church would not be "caught dead at Jazz Fest". But I cannot help but LOVE it.

I just saw this thread! Congrats Rosetree, The Festal Virgin and VW will stop by your spot at Jazzfest -- I've added the Wednesday open house to the "VW and Virgin" Jazzfest calendar! This is so very nice of you to do this, and I have no doubt I'll be leaving with something nice to remember the occasion and you.
