Hey NO locals - I'll be in town at a conference next Wed (6/11) through Sunday. The schedule looks pretty full, but I'll have some free time Wednesday evening and Saturday evening. Any suggestions on music events? Or better yet, anyone available to meet for dinner or music, like maybe Wed at the Square? I'm staying at a B&B in the garden district, near the conference which is at Loyola.

BTW the conference will be fascinating and the Threadheads are an excellent case study - it's about self-organizing social systems. How in most of our daily lives we work in social structures that put us in boxes/roles/job descriptions with bosses and hierarchy etc. which limit our freedom and our humanness and ultimately our results. But the new emerging view of organizations recognizes innate human capacity to self-organize. When people come together around something they are passionate about - their talents naturally rise to the occassion and they do what needs or wants to be done... without appointed leaders or org charts or vision statements. Most of NO revitalization has come about in that way, so we will meet with groups around town to learn from them. Sorry to go on about that, if anyone is interested I can email you a paper on this by Meg Wheatley.

Glinda that does sound interesting, I would love to read the paper. E-me at gratefulparrotheadAThotmailDOTcom

I agree that there are several groups born out of the thing that have definitely been "outside the box" in their thinking and get stuff done. TH records and F4K are two obvious examples of that for sure.

oooh, ooh, oh --- The woman who started the Lower 9th Farmer's Market is an amazing woman who has an incredibly inspiring story. Mr wanna and I love her (and her Mom and daughter) to bits!!!

From the May 27th entry in the link above -

The new Lower Ninth Ward Farmers Market, a member of the Downtown Neighborhood Market Consortium, is held every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of St. David's Church on St. Claude Avenue. Holy Cross resident Jenga Mwendo is the Market Manager. Thanks for making the market happen, Jenga!

Jada, great to see you hanging as a local! :)

Frank, what happened to your wrist? :(

Inflammed tendons from my left thumb past my wrist and halfway up my arm. And I'm not even a left handed drinker. But I DO peel crawfish with my left thumb, and probably had 5 times as many crawfish this year as in most years, so it could be a repetitive motion injury - I'm calling it "Crawfish Thumb"....

Mon ami, no worries, Jolie, I hear you are unreplaceable. Tangie just tring to make you jealous. Wish u were here. Maybe we'll shoot up to north shore on way back from MS.Weather is warm but beautiful for those not in NO. I feel I'm rehydrating myself. After 48 hours of no sleep and working my but off to be able to come play, I crashed early before midnt. Tangie is an energizer bunny, she just keeps going. Dennis, enjoyed dinner with you at Felix's. Let them folks wait in line at Acme. I am so glad to be in NO. You local THs don't take this place for granted! Appreciate and know how lucky you are to be in a place where everyone elso wants to be. Tangie will help me get a pic up for my avatar. Looking forward to meeting other THs here! Still deciding if we're going to Wed in the square as hear the group.... oh but Den has to use up his tkts so we probably will.

Gathering of the Vibes is the same week-end of Satchmo. It is still up in the air as to when I will be going to NYC. I will plan to be here for July 4th wk-end...I hope.

Lis, I can't believe I will miss you for Satchmo. You never know what will happen with my trip up to NYC though.

Thanks Katy! Absolutely having a ball in Nawlins. Didn't like the donut group on the square tonight ( u called that one right Katy) but the improv jam session at the Spotted Cat was awesome. good meeting you Ken and Stephanie. DenBear is a great tourguide when the hostess with the mostestis not available. What's happenin' for the rest of the week? I'm here through Monday. Would like to meet more of you!
