View Full Version : Threadhead Records: Marc Stone's Project

Shamarr's is on the way to being fully funded, Craig Klein's is about 2/3 of the way there.....so, this is the last one I'm reaching out on for a bit---
Marc is looking for about 4K to complete his CD. What I like about this project is that Marc is offering some unique opportunities for promotion of not only his project, but of the other work that TH Records is doing. I will let him explain:
Hi Chris and fellow Threadheads. Here’s a proposal for a collaboration between Threadhead Records and my label (Tulip Records) for getting my new CD over the finish line. I love what you have done with THR and I think combining our efforts could work out well for both the artists on THR and my projects since we are both trying to achieve the same thing: to help deserving independent music that doesn’t get much love from the big boys in music media, out into the world and to the ears of people that will appreciate it and support it. I’ve been amazed to see how the THs can rally around the music they believe in, and support from people on the Bored was really key in making the Campbell Brothers’ and Betty Harris shows at the Old Point as special and successful as they were.
Here’s how I think a collaboration with Tulip could benefit THR:
- The Campbell Brothers’ new CD should give Tulip national/international visibility as a label. We are already getting press interest in Europe and major markets (Wash DC, NYC, etc.) in the U.S. on the Campbells CD. Tulip will be doing a big promotional push for the new Campbell Brothers' CD leading up to the official release date, which has been pushed back to mid-August to coincide with the Campbell Brothers/Kirk Joseph's Backyard Horns Sacred Funk performance at Lincoln Center on Sat. Aug. 23rd (Boutte and Shamaar are also on this event, as is Betty Harris with my band). If things move along on schedule, I should be releasing my CD around the same time. That being said I’m not considering this a “do-or-die” but either way the attention generated by the Campbells’ CD will benefit future projects on the label. Since both THR and Tulip will have artists at Lincoln Center, maybe we can have a coordinated marketing strategy for the event.
- My CD will hopefully be well covered in the local press, and the THR/Tulip collaboration would be a prominent part of the story of the record.
I have been fortunate to receive a lot of support from local press and radio for my projects, and there are some writers who are already familiar with the material I’m recording and excited to cover the CD.
- I tour at least twice a year in Europe and have been getting pretty good press over there. I think because of the frequency of my touring in Europe I would be able to bring a good level of international exposure to THR. The THR story would play very well in Europe, where stories about outside support for NOLA and it's music scene are still generating press interest. just met a film crew from France yesterday that was doing a piece on that subject.
The amount of $ I would be looking for from THR to make this workable is in the $3-4k range. That would go a long way towards finishing the recording of the project. Next week we will be doing overdubs on the basic tracks that we have already recorded, and should have finished mixes on a few tracks by the end of June. We only have a couple of more tunes that need to be recorded from the ground up, and $4k should be enough to finish the recording and mixing of the project.
Thanks!
Marc

This is great to read Chris. I met Marc's manager at the NOJHF offices and had a long "get to know you" chat. Loyalty notwithstanding, she spoke very highly of Marc, his creativity and his ethics.
My cheque's going in the mail Monday too. I assume payable to Marc Stone?
Sure wish I could be in NYC for the August 23 show, but I know our Threadhead Nation, NYC chapter will be there in force.
Keep up the wonderful work Chris! You make us look Gooooooooooood. :D

Hey Threadheads!
Sorry I've been out of the digital loop since JF, the whole Fest season (which didn't end for me until after Boogaloo) kicked my butt. It's nice to have a minute to breath again.
I can't tell you how blown away I am by how supportive everyone has been. And I'm honored that you guys would consider supporting me alongside people I have so much respect for, Shamaar, Boutte, the Nightcrawlers, all musicians I have tremendous admiration for.
Thanks for EVERYTHING you guys do to support the music scene down here. Since I became aware of the Bored about a year ago, it's been amazing to read about your charitable efforts, TH Records, the way you guys organize to get the word out about shows and artists. It's really incredible. As an independent musician I can tell this kind of support means the world to all the musicians out there trying to make it work outside of the very limited sphere of big labels and big media.
Keep on rockin' with this all of this great stuff that you do, and please let me know anything I can do to help get the word out or otherwise help with anything you guys are doing.
With much love an gratitude,
Marc

Hey papa! Is that the room on the right on the way to the rear patio? The rear patio has the potential to be a nice small venue too.

Wow, just got an email from Chris and read the TH Records update here on the bored. I can't thank you guys enough.
IBJ, thanks much. Hope to see you around town!
Texasyokel, yeah man! We're really excited about the Lincoln Center gig. Should be a killer day of music. I'm a native New Yorker, so you can imagine how honored I am that projects I'm involved with will be there.
Carolina, thanks for the support! I'm pretty sure I remember you from way back when I was with Terrance, probably making you the first Threadhead I ever met!
Amy, festbabe, Ohio and everyone else, thanks and thanks some more! I will have a couple of finished tracks soon (we are in the studio this week) and I will make free downloads available for everyone who helps with the project. Hope ya like 'em!
And especially big thanks to Chris Joseph for making all of this great stuff with Threadhead Records happen.
And thanks also to Papa Frog for putting together these weekly gigs for us at VooDoo BBQ. Tonight is the kickoff and we're very psyched. Camile Baudoin from the Rads is going to join us on nylon string guitar. We haven't played together in quite a while, so it should be a lot of fun. Hope to see some Threadheads out there!
Any time any of you good TH folks see me on a gig or out and about, please say hi and introduce yourself. I already know a handful of you, but my mental retention can be a little lacking at times, so even if we've met before. please come and say hi and tell me your name. I always love when a pocket of Threadheads shows up and says hi. Lots of good energy!
Hey Cissy, you're right! The Threadheads are a great bunch of people..

My wife and I are looking into going too. Also, the Yankees are playing some home games (Boston-August 26th thru 29th, and Toronto-August 30th,31st). Those 3 home games against the Red Sox will be the last games the Red Sox and Yankees play at the "old" Yankee Stadium (unless they meet in the postseason).
