Paul, the lovely Queens JuJu the II, IV, and V requested that the Hornman serve them as, respectively, the Royal Jester of the BarbanCourt, Royal Iron Chef of the Crispy Noodle Dynasty, and the Intrepid Consort of the Merry Monkey Pranksters.
Yes, I'll be making it this year, all three nights. You should consider making it to the Ball on Friday night too.

Bonerama and Unknown Hinson at Skipper's on Feb 11, the Sunday after MonkeyBall.

I'm not sure when I signed up for it but I get Bonerama emaill updates regularly (got one at 3:30 this very afternoon).... Unknown Hinson was totally unknown to me before your post and as I sit here listening to them from their myspace sight I'm not sure I should have exposed myself to a psychobilly/ rock/punk band.... Where the hell do I go from here???.. Psychopolka???...
Whose the headliner,.. the Bones or Unknown Hinson????

I ain't afraid of no psychobilly--I've got a Cramps sticker on my truck.
Unknown is a favorite of WMNF's Rockabilly Rebel (who's responsible for the Rockabilly Ruckus the following week at Skipper's). Hinson's been on my must-see list for a while. Apparently he's a bit erratic and tough to deal with and has cancelled some shows in this area in the past. I can't guess which will play first, but I don't expect any cross-band jamming.
Damn it's going to be tough going to an early Sunday show after Monkey Ball. I hope I can make it. I hope you don't opt for the Tampa Bone show instead of Monkey Ball now.
I got the Bone e-mail today too, hence the post of the Skipper's show. Now that you mention it, I remember when I signed up--at the Belle Chere festival in Asheville, July 2005. That was a good day--the place was crawling with Threadheads and Kat Petters.

I'll be at Skippers for BONERAMA! I gotta admit I'm a little afraid of this Unknown Hinson :o  That should make for a real "gumbo" of an audience though ...:D yeah i'm a skirt

I gotta admit I'm rethinkin'... Skippers might prove to be the better choice for me.... four less hours less drivin' (roundtrip) and the Unknown intriques me from an entertainment point of view.... I like the Rads well enough but Bonerama is the bigger draw for me... I did back to backer with Mem Shannon not too long ago and I kinda felt like a grouper (a fish story?) by the third set of the second day...
Not too sure about that 5 p.m. start at Skippers,.. a little early in the day for maximum crowd support....
May allow the weather report to decide it for me.......

Hey Bluedog, welcome!
I think Skipper's has to shut down the music by 11 on Sunday, so the Bone could come on at 9, but then it would be a 7pm start for UH, not a 5pm. I'd watch the band and the venue sites and see if one updates the time.
The Rads did a Skipper's show on the Sunday after Monkey Ball a few years ago, and as I heard the story the band didn't realize until Sunday morning that they were supposed to be on stage in Tampa at 7 that night. They were not happy, but being the pros they are they made it.
The Rads show last August(?) at Skipper's on a Sunday followed a Friday and Saturday run in Ft. Lauderdale. I believe that was a 9p start (they learned).
Maybe Queen JuJu V of the MonkeyKrewe will chime in. I just told her to check out this thread.

Thanx for the warm welcome HH!
Skippers has to shut down @ 11:00? WTH? (what the trailer park across the street complains about the music?) interesting ... maybe we should give a headsup to the bands? I don't want to miss Bonerama because of a scheduling issue. I've spent many hours trying to get them here in Tampa. They came here last year no wait it was fall of 2005 to an R&R bar in Port Richey ... Bourbon Street I think is the name on Hwy19. The crowd there just really wasn't into them ... I mean some of the people there were cool but I think alot of people just don't get NOLA music. Their loss, but I felt so bad because I sent so many nagging emails to their bookie/booker/manager whatever stating "they HAD to come to TAMPA we'd show them a good time" ... so now I finally got them to come to Skippers and I'm afraid they won't come back if there is a fiasco with the schedule....:(
KUDOS to The Rads! Love 'em!

Hello Blue,.. with all that hard work you are obviously in for the Bones that "evening"... Even if I head down to Lauderdale,.. I will make it back to Tampa for the show... Gotta catch the Henson show... Look for the nut....
When you get some free time could you possibly convince Joss Stone to come play in Sarasota???... I will gladly offer her a place to stay..... and her band can camp out in the backyard (the gators haven't bothered anybody to date)....

I don't think they'll be any confusion--I'm sure there's a written contract specifying stage times. In my tale of the Rads show, I'm sure management knew the deal, it was just tough for the band to get on the road so early after the MonkeyBlowout.
Don't know if it's online, but I remember reading a great story (probably in Offbeat) while in NOLA at last fest about following Mark Mullins during Mardi Gras as he ran from Bone gig to practice to guest gig to Bone gig. It was exhausting just reading it.
If Skipper's continues to bill it as a 5pm show, believe it. That's pretty common on a Sunday, and the music is over by around 9:30.
Thanks for pushing Bonerama to come here. I've watched their schedule bypass us (I'm in St. Pete) for South Florida for years now. Those Halloween shows at the Green Parrot in Key West (during Fantasy Fest) must be incredible.
I've been to one show at Bourbon Street, for the Rads (go figure). Almost exactly 4 years ago tonight in fact. Big fishead contingent from Orlando and South Florida, so the crowd was great.

If you are coming to the Monkey Ball the weekend should be way fun with Zeke playing an intimate show at the hotel!
Friday night will be the Ball... the theme is "For the Love of Monkey"
Saturday's show will feature the Bones opening for the Boyz! I would tend to think the Bones will play with the Boyz!!!

UH is pretty wild, but Hank III is the true psychobilly.

Unknown Hinson dot com says that Hank III has Unknown's face tatooed on his bicep.
III is third-wave psychobilly. Hasil Adkins (RIP) is the father and the Cramps are his bastard children.

Skipper's is in North Tampa. It's a really cool outdoor venue that, I think holds maybe 500 people. It has a resturant that is attached to it that's menu is as unique as the performers they feature!

I love Skippers! I'm a Tampa Native so when we have visitors from outta state I always take them there. I think it's a "must see" for all! On the outskirts of "ghetto" Tampa but ya just gotta go! It's a good time always! http://www.skipperssmokehouse.com/
When you get some free time could you possibly convince Joss Stone to come play in Sarasota???... I will gladly offer her a place to stay..... and her band can camp out in the backyard (the gators haven't bothered anybody to date).... haha! I'm partial to Bonerama because Mark Mullins & Craig Klein were in HCJ big band for years and have now broke away & started their own gig and they are HOT! Meaning me likey the music! Rock & Roll all jazzed up with some mind blowing horns! Can't wait for this show! I too have watched them pass us by for South FL. I just got proactive about it and started sending emails. They finally booked a show 1.5 years later.
Does Joss Stone have any connections to Harry? That might motivate me!:) Seven degrees of Harry?
My husband & I will be there and hopefully a few friends will show up too. Ya'll wanna share a table & some cocktails let me know!

Use the airport quite a bit... Fly out of there 4-5 times a year... Always use Southwest direct to N'awlins,.. who doesn't love peanuts for everybody??? (answer: peeps with nut problems)...
Sharin' a table would be very cool (dibs on the legs).... Tell your hubby I come to dance.... (with you,.. not him)....

There was no Monkey Ball in 2006, so her reign has lasted over two years. The Lightning held the Stanley Cup for two years because the next season was canceled due to the strike.

I'm hoping they do more shows there and maybe shoot for a Friday or Sat nite next time. In talking with the guys in the band they seemed to really like Skippers so keeping fingers crossed. A friend of mine says there is a place in Ybor they would do well at ... I don't know which club he means. But I was checking into the old "Blues Ship" but have long closed ... to my knowledge everything else was "pop culture" ... The only places in Ybor that have decent shows are the Orpheum, New World Brewery, and of course the Cuban Club. The Orpheum is ok, but book more punk and alt country. NWB is a cool bar but limited stage room (and at ground level). I'd rather see them at Skipper's again, or maybe the State Theater in St. Pete. Or best yet at the Cuban Club for Tropical Heatwave. Rumor has it that Tom, Skipper's promoter, said after the show that he was golfing the next day with Randy W. at WMNF and he was going to push for Bonerama at Heatwave.
How did you not see the tall guy with the peanut hanging from his ear?

You heard rumors? That's good news! I talked to Randy a few months back at the Papa Grows Funk/Lost Bayou Ramblers show about Bonerama and have sent relentless emails to him. He did tell me that he had heard of them and wanted to get them back here for Tropical Heatwave and YES The Cuban Club would be perfect! Keeping fingers crossed. I did consider The State Theatre and Janus Landing but thought Skippers would be more their "style" and it's just a fun place to be. Everyone is laid back and you can eat & drink and enjoy the music. They would prolly get more exposure at those other places though.
Ya know I did see a tall guy with a "long" ear, Paul that was you? ... I didn't get close enuff to see that it was a peanut (duh)... I just thought he had a weird ear ????:( *waits to be slapped with trout*
