Exactly the question I had/have. Not sure yet.

Since they do not have a web site, I'm guessing at the door. Is this a public or private event? If private, are you doing a Guest List?

chrisjoseph
05-26-2008, 07:21 PM
I believe it's going to be a public event. In the absence of pre-sale tickets, we'll probably do a guest list...and charge those guests at the door. But there has to be some kind of guarantee of advanced ticket purchases, because we're going to be on the hook for paying the venue and the performers.

What's the capacity? Do you know the minimum guarantee number yet?

Maybe the show can get onto the Kjazz calendar.

chrisjoseph
05-26-2008, 07:30 PM
I believe the capacity is 150. I think (don't quote me on this), the venue charge is $500, plus they take whatever they make on drinks. I think John, Paul and Shamarr are each guaranteed $500, plus they need to find a bass player and drummer who will need to be paid. I'm not involved in the contract negotiation for the venue, but this is my understanding to date.

So 150 @ $20 is the break even point.

Are you going to have Threadhead Records merch available?

chrisjoseph
05-26-2008, 07:38 PM
John, Paul and Shamarr will have their CD's to sell...but in terms of the stuff you can buy on cafepress.com/threcords.com, that's only going to be available via the web (for now).

Plus the guarantee to the musicians is based on ticket sales...the venue isn't paying them anything.

The Joint is a good venue...PBS played there a couple months ago.

Count me in for tickets to this. Also, if there's anything I can help with, let me know! I know alot of working musicians ( blues, rock, funk, etc.) in LA too, if you need any names & numbers: jensoffice at yahoo dot com

Looking forward to this!!

Mexi, can you email me with your full name, how many tix, etc.? My email address is below. Also, I should have mentioned this earlier, but probably looking for bass and drum players who have jazz/pop backgrounds.

Just so there is no confusion...the show is happening, whether we sell 150 tickets or not. Or whether we sell 50 tickets. But I'm confident we're gonna pack the house.

Also, This Thursday night I'm going to the Viper Room with a guy that does band promotion for lots musicians. I'll talk to him about this event if you like, or better yet come down to the Viper Room this Thursday and we can talk too.

I really want to!
I checked flights today; RT/ out of Indianapolis $390. That's a steal! I actually verbalized this thing today for the first time.

I sort of feel guilty about coming, though :o ... it seems selfish when I could use the cash I'd spend on the transportation & hotel room to help finance another Threadhead Records project.

May I have until Sat. to give you a final word? (if there is a ticket left by then, of course!)

I know what you mean Sissy... I booked on impulse (kicker for me was also spending a coupla days with Amyloves) and am now agonising over how much that cash could have done for the kidz. Not to mention a getaway with the mister closer to home. But wise old olderozzie reckons it's way important for musicians to feel the love from their supporters in the way only a performance can do, and also that a night is only there for its moment while the beach will always be there. Sigh, he's a good egg.

So... dinner before the show?

VW, Canmore is certainly more doable for us, but still a pretty long haul. Enjoy!!

I hear ya! I've made the trip with small children from Calgary to Jackson Hole twice -- in fact, I once drove it with FOUR school-age youngsters in the van, when I was dating a man with two children of his own. We survived! Depending on the patience level, it's a minimum three, maybe four day drive. Babies are easier than pre-schoolers in my experience. We used to leave our house at 9 pm, drive all night and arrive in my hometown 12 hours away by the time they woke up. Then it was off to naps for us, leaving gramma with the well-rested kidlets!

We'll get you up here some day yet....:D

We hate that you won't be there with us! :( Wish there was a way for it to work out for you, sweetie. Should we commence begging and groveling? Will that work? :D :p

I made it from Dallas to Canmore in about 2.5 days. About 32 hours of road time, IIRC.

If you're not hauling a family, you can definitely do it in less time depending on your "iron ass" potential!

Oh my god, that MADE MY DAY! Paul Sanchez is a stellar storyteller. Maybe the nice cool summer breezes here will speed John up when he's here with Paul in August. If he plays trumpet, I swear I don't know what I will do! Shamarr is right, those two are "odd couple reality show" material.

I was tempted to do a red-eye out and back, but I'm 'working' Saturday until 6 pm (rehearsal) and just couldn't swing it.

reminder to all attending Friday's show: we are meeting for dinner at 6 PM at Versailles Restaurant at 6 PM. Versailles is located on La Cienega, just south of Pico, only a few blocks from "The Joint."

I know. How many people are there going to be?

Steve sometimes has to work until 6 on Fridays but, unfortunately, he won't know 'til Friday. It'll be safer not to count on us so we don't hold you guys up.
