Hey local Threadheads!
Does anyone know of a summer job for a smart, hard-working, prompt, responsible, high school graduate???
Rosebud (Marcy) just graduated from Cabrini HS and has been looking for a summer job before she goes off to college. She has retail experience and works well with people.
If anyone has or heard of a job, please let me know...
Thanks :D

Working for Mom and Dad is OK, and she has done it, we want her to get some more experience outside of the studio. ;)

my usual advice to job hunters: everyone is hiring. some just don't know it yet. just figure out what you want to do and where you want to do it ...then show employers why they can't afford not to hire you.

Has she looked on Craigslist? Alot of employers use them because it's free to post an ad.

Not a summer job but.....

OffBeat needs an organized, personable self-starter to sell advertising for its print and online media (including the Weekly Beat), as well as for special projects. The candidate chosen will be assertive, creative, meticulous, persistent in achieving goals, a team player, have a professional attitude and excellent communication skills, and the desire to excel in producing revenue for our company. If you think like an entrepreneur and want to work in an environment that’s geared towards improving the musical and cultural

My graduating HS senior got a summer position at our local Pier 1. She cold called and they had her come in for an interview even though they weren't officially hiring. They called her back the next week and she's now working about 25-30 hours per week.

This really wasn't a smartass comment. I understand if you wouldn't want her to work for them, but the Fed govt. has a variety of these summer programs. It stands for Summer Temporary Employment Program. They hire students from late high school to college. They usually are clerical indoors things (not deciding how tall the levees should be).

Summer Jobs to Defend the Coast

Louisiana loses a football field worth of wetlands (a.k.a.

natural storm protection) every 45 minutes, and we can stop it!

This summer, work with the Gulf Restoration Network to organize public support for the “Defend Our Wetlands, Defend Ourselves” campaign, pressure Congress and oil companies to fix the coast, and recruit members for the Gulf Restoration Network.

Work in New Orleans with potential for travel throughout the Gulf, learn valuable outreach and activism skills, and earn $4,500 to $8,000 for the summer.

Call 504-525-1528 ext 203 to apply!

If ( ?? ) the move happens, it will be my first time as a full time N.O. resident. My house is for sale up here in Chicago and I am closing my business in February. Just need the house to sell , a good job in N'awlins and my kid to get accepted into Ben Franklin High School. Fingers crossed...

Call to Artists: Changing Landscapes Residency Application

The world's natural and built environments are endangered and the need to seriously engage contemporary thinking about these disappearing landscapes through the creation of art is of paramount importance. ASITW envisions this as a powerful context for the exploration of critical thinking, the development of new ideas and strategies, and using the creative process as a catalyst for social change.

With this in mind, we invite artists to submit applications to our inaugural environmental residency series entitled Changing Landscapes, addressing the ecological challenges exemplified by Southern Louisiana. The call is open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental issues and a commitment to seeking and plowing new ground. Artists are invited to design their own interface with the public and are encouraged to propose ways to engage the larger community of New Orleans and beyond.

Recipients will be given $3500 as a stipend and $1500 towards materials. ASITW covers costs associated with room and board including food, utilities for living and studio space. Residents are expected to cover personal living expenses, additional materials and supplies, telephone charges, and any other expenses relating to the cost of producing work incurred while in the program. Travel and shipping expenses to and from ASITW for the residency are also the responsibility of the artist.

Three 6-week residencies are to be offered between November 2008 and April 2009. The deadline for submissions is August 4, 2008. Please click the link below to access the application or send an email to applications@astudiointhewoods.org for more information.

Changing Landscape Residencies are funded in part by the Ford Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
