I am at home in Melbourne on a welcomely wet and cold day,not that I like cold but we need water here.I have got home got my fire going started playing Neil very loud and am starting to to think that he should be a mainman for Jazzfest, especialy seing that he can handle it down by the river, maybe his well known dislike of corporate sponsorship has kept him away,
Anyway if big bucks are going to be spent on artists I would rather it be spent on him than Billy Joel

Glad to hear you made it back home okay!

Tonight, I'm going to see Australia's finest guitarist perform. His name is Tommy Emmanuel. Ever hear him?
He'd be a great addition to the Fest, too. :)

Enjoy Sistah Sissy.... he's a goodun for sure.

However, after years and years of watching him playing shopping centres, then advancing to cabarets and THEN at bone fide concerts I was a little ticked off when he refused a very small personal favour (not of the sexual kind I hasten to add) I requested a few years ago. Ah well, I guess I'm over it now. [sigh]

BTW, his brother plays too.

He plays very well indeed, been around a long time as does his brother correctly stated by Ozzie, some musos I know actualy prefer the brother whose name is Phil.I once saw him in a famous old pub in Cairns the Barrier Reef Hotel.
Other Australian guitar players to watch out for are Geoff Achison,Jeff Lang and Fiona Boyes all of whom spend a lot of time in the states.
Hope you have a good night.

Since Johnnos closed down, the Barrier Reef Hotel is one of the few with ANY live music!

Geoff Achison has sort of made Atlanta his second home. He plays around here a lot. Amazing guitarist, and makes the girls swoon.

Thanks, guys, for the background!

The show was fantastic, Tommy Emmanuel, solo acoustic. It was a sold out show at a 200-cap. venue in SE Ohio. He played for over 21/2 hours, with a 20 minute intermission between sets. Many times, I have seen acoustic performers lose steam after a set break, but that didn't happen last night. He had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand long before he left the stage following his encore.

It's amazing to hear what he can do with an acoustic guitar, a P.A. and some electricity. Not only is the guy a genius, I'd say he was also a child prodigy as he's been playing professionally as a musician since he was six years old. His technique is based on the Chet Atkins method of guitar playing.

Boy, I'd hate to see what would have happened if he'd played a sitar based Ravi Shankar's technique! :) It was a stellar performance. Even my 18-year old, whom I had to wheedle a little to attend, was blown away by his remarkable performance.
