You're in good company here, that for sure! :D
Stick around! The board is somewhat less active from now until Dec or Jan but there's still plenty going on. Feel free to ask questions & join in the chatter!

Yes....beginning in that Dec Jan time frame, it is busy. A month or two before, it becomes a mad frenzy of posts...and really interesting ones!

I'm sure plenty have already asked. New here and we we wondering when do tickets go on sale. Also, is it worth getting the vip or grand marshall tickets?
While we're here, can anyone recommend a nice hotel around or in the french quarter? We are looking for a "high end" hotel, since the trip will be for our 10 yr wedding anniversary.

I am not sure when the tickets go on sale (maybe just after first of the year??). Since they never sell out, it is not really a concern to get them early.
It is useful to get hotel reservations and flights earlier, because they do get more limited.
I would suggest the Monteleone as one of the high-end hotels in the FQ. Good location, very nice place.

p/j, I mentioned this on the introduction thread, but I'll repeat it here. Do some investigating over on www.swagland.com (http://www.swagland.com), lots of info there & here. Tickets go on sale in January. Tons of great hotels in/near the quarter. Hang out at this site for great deal info. This year about 50 Threadheads got in on a French Quarter hotel for $39/night (weekend hotwire deal).

Woohoo! Festivalgirl and dude are going for the whole enchilada! I've stayed at all kinds of places in new orleans from the old LaSalle hotel on Canal(it's surrounded by the Saenger theatre) where the bathroom was down the hall if you went for the $50 a night version to our place this year, and everything in between.
vrbo.com vacation rentals by owner is a great place to start.
That's how i found our place this year. That said, pictures do not tell the story. If you find a place that interests you, ask about it here. Someone might know of it. Or see if some kind TH will take a look at a couple of possibiilites for ya. I'd be happy to do it when i'm in town for satchmo in july/aug because that' s going to be a nice, long trip and won't be rushed. :)

There are large houses for rent and some are in the marigny. We(Corona, shasha, ed and moi) are already booked for next year. And Ohio and Mrs. Ohio are booked at the same condo too! We were definitely in a location this year and next where we thought sleep would be hard to get but with a white noise machine and getting in at 4 or later we slept just fine. :)

I looked at that house in 1998 or so when it was for sale, I think the asking price was about $60,000. It was under contract, and the rest is history.

I know. It's weird out here. House prices are down but still outrageously high & rentals are sky rocketing. In fact, we have an election today where they're trying to get rid of rent control. If it actually passes it might be "NOLA here we come". ;)

"This property can be rented as one large complex which can
accommodate up to 20 guests or as individual units. The main house
is rentable as one unit accommodating up to 10 guests. The two
bedroom, guest apartment can sleep up to six, with a loft and a
queen size futon. The one bedroom guest cottage can accommodate up
to 4 guests,
with two on the futon. The garden cottage can accommodate two guests
for the ultimate privacy.
We offer a unique experience in one of New Orleans' oldest
neighborhoods. This compound, comprised of main house and cottages,
is nestled amongst lush, tropical foliage, landscaped gardens,
patios, and courtyards where you can relax after a long day of
sightseeing or meetings, or start off your day enjoying a cup of New
Orleans coffee.
More amenities than most hotels: Each private accommodation has all
the creature comforts of a hotel, but with more amenities, as most
accommodations have a fully-equipped kitchen, spacious seating
areas, unlimited, free local telephone calls, and a stereo system."

We decided on our first year that we were 2nd weekenders - 4 days vs. 3 days. I don't think we'd be able to choose based on music - we'd want both so we book before the schedules are even out!!
We're going to try to do almost all this time (we'll get in Friday late afternoon).

no mention of how many baths. my preference is 2-3 per shower, maybe 4-6 if there is also a 1/2 bath. otherwise you send a lot of time waiting for everyone to get ready.
