We are passing through Chicago on July 4th only and wondered about tips for 4th of July. I know about the 3rd and 4th being celebrated but wondering exactly where the 4th celebrations are in regards to a hotel that takes dogs. ;)
And how about a good music venue close to the hotel you may recommend.
Thanks in advance. Hope I am not asking for too much. Great pet friendly hotel, close to the fireworks and a music venue or club in the same area.

I saw that and it looks like a Bonehead should be there! Also it looks easy to get there by public transportation too.

Hi, Belle,
I know you said Chicago, but I know you love Los Lobos. And it seems like I recall your mentioning a big road trip w/ your family?
So, unless your plans are "engraved in stone", you might want to make a slight detour:

We have used www.bringfido.com (http://www.bringfido.com) several times a year for 5 years or so and have NEVER been disappointed in the hotels we booked. After your trip they always send you "fido bucks" that give you a discount on your next trip. :)

Hey Lynda-- I'm thinking of going to FitzGerald's the 3rd (for John Boutte & Paul Sanchez - I hope) and 4th for Marcia & Bonerama, not sure yet. If you decide to go, let us know & we'll meet up!
If you want to see the downtown fireworks - at Taste of Chicago - then I guess you'll want to stay in the loop. Wicked crowded, but a great fireworks display over the lake. In that area, Buddy Guy's Legends is a great music club, with pretty good food, closeby. Also Blue Chicago on Clark St, and House of Blues are all downtown too. FitzG's is about a 30 minute drive or L ride (not sure I'd take it back downtown last at nite tho). I don't know about pet-friendly hotels, sorry, but look for something on or near Michigan Ave... I'll ask around and let you know, & also keep my eyes open for other music events around town - there are plenty!
There is also free music in Grant Park a few blocks south of the Taste madness at Summerdance. They do dance lessons & then have a band. Tango, swing, & steppin that weekend. We danced to Geno Delafose there last August.

The city does it's main fireworks show on July 3rd, I believe. Some of the suburbs have theirs on the 3rd, some on the 4th.

I love the Intercontinental on Michigan. I doubt that you could secure a rate of $89 per night! 'Must have quoted a rate they charged on January 15th!
Fitzgeralds Great American Music Festival is one of my favorites. No better way to spend Indy Day than in the midwest! Very kid friendly. In 2007 & 2006, Terrance Simien performed shows actually geared toward children; talked to them re: Louisiana culture. Several joined him on stage. Our next generation of threadheads.

Here is another link to Naperville Ribfest:
http://www.ribfest.net/entertainment.php#sched2
They are still doing line-ups but: Average white band got my attention.
Plus...the rib competition is one of the largest in the country.
MrSteve and I were trying to figure out how we are going to squeeze in that weekend. So, so much to see, we might have to draw straws.

If you are ever in Vermont and want to take your pet, check out The Pawhouse Inn. http://www.pawhouseinn.com/
We spent our 2nd anniversary there. It was in October and the foliage was spectacular. We loved the place, it was out in the country with lots of acreage for dog playing/running, but also close to Rutland, VT. We ate lots of meals at Three Tomatoes Trattoria , a wonderful Italian restaurant. (Make sure you order a full chicken of the house wine!)
Little Girl (our dog) had her own four poster bed near our bed, it was too cute. We took day trips to the Vermont Teddy Bear factory & Ben & Jerry's ice cream and to see the the beautiful foliage.
All you animal lovers who love to travel with your pets, should definately check this plce out. :)

Belle, I know with all of the celebrations/fireworks/music that you might not have time, but the aquarium makes Chicago worth a trip by itself. It is located downtown near Grant Park out on the water.

And important to visit soon, as they will be draining the humungo tanks that house the belugas & dolphins for maintenance work, lasting 9 months.
