I was fantasizing the other day about the ultimate cubes... dead or alive.... one version went something like this:
Jazz Tent: Louis and Ella
Gospel Tent: Mahalia
Fais Do Do: Clifton Chenier
Acura: Stones with the Nevilles
Louisiana Heritage: Wild Tchoupitoulas
Congo Square: Stevie Wonder
Economy Hall: Dirty Dozen
Blues Tent: Etta James
Course it'd be waaay too crowded everywhere....
Other fantasy line-ups???
My vertical fantasy, one day at one of the big stages:
Susan Tedeschi
Koko Taylor
Etta James
Aretha Franklin
Janis Joplin (since dead folks seem to be fair game).
I'd make camp for those ladies.

Susan Tedeschi at the old Blues stage
Black Crowes or RRFB at SoCo stage
A Dopsie or two at zydeco
Bruce at the big stage
Its actually more like a nightmare - how would I choose?

That's funny - I was just thinking that the fest should do a "women's" day highlighting women performers.

Indeed it was... A Tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe... followed by a Slide Guitar Jam(can't remember how it was billed)! One of the best... make that the best JazzFest experience I have had to date!

okay, are talking about fantasy FOMS lineups or fantasy lineups?
My fantasy FOMS (I agree nightmare is a better word)
Acura- Widespread Panic
Congo- Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk
Sprint- The Rads
Fais Do Do- Eric Lindell
Jazz and Heritage Stage-Hot 8 Brass band with Shamarr Allen on trumpet
Jazz Tent- John Boutte
Blues Tent- John Butler Trio
That would absolutely put me over the edge trying to decide :(

If we are talking fantasy, I would take John, Paul, George, and Ringo on the Fess Stage...(it is a fantasy!)

You can always find the exact billing via the cube rescue program.

But YYR about that tribute. Irma's verison of Beams of Heaven/I Shall Be Free may be the best single song performance I've ever seen at Fest. Pat Boyack (then of the Marcia Ball Band), who was onstage playing guitar for that one, told me it might be the pinnacle moment of his career so far.
