Meaning, an artist whose music was unknown to you previous to seeing them at the fest...for me, it was the Amina Figarova jazz band in the Jazz Tent. This acoustic group, based in Holland and led by Ms. Figarova on the piano, is tight, yet with a healthy amount of improvisation. They absolutely captivated me for almost the entire set, that is until the crowd noise drove me out.
I bought one CD and can't wait to add some more.
Would love to hear about other T-head 'new music' experiences.

last time Franti played fest, I promised myself I'd spend more time with him next time he played and not only did I remember, but I actually followed through on that promise.
Also loved the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Chappy, Mamadou Diabate, Ruthie Foster, and Midnite Disturbers (If I could only see a night show of theirs). They were all basically new for me.

Kenny Bill Stinson on Thurs. (Fais Do Do) was over the top good! I had never seen him or heard him before, and let me tell you he had it going. Killer piano based rockabilly/rocknroll/rhythmnblues. This is what Jerry Lee Lewis probably sounded like 50 years ago. 2 guitar players with lots of dual rhythm guitar, 2 trombone players, bass and drums. Strong, Strong, Strong. Let's hope they get him back next year. I believe he said that he is from north Louisiana (Monroe or thereabouts).

Soul Project...actually heard Soul Project playing on Decatur St and walked across the street to check out who it was..then caught them at fest :)
Robert Plant/Allison Kraus was the BNA that I liked way way more than I thought I would!
Missed Ruthie Foster for the offer of a front seat for Aaron in Gospel Tent! So hoping I at least got some church points for that one!

What a great venue to see Ruthie -- and general admission is no problem, the venue is small.
