If you come for Mardi Gras don't wear any of your bears clothing.

That sure makes me feel warm and fuzzy

Mike I agree that's ugly. But you may not realize that the news here covered some serious ugliness from many Bears fans yesterday. It was on the news plenty here. I know several people from work who went to the game and said they were literally afraid. There were references to Katrina that were just horrible. I know there were lots of awesome people there too, but it got pretty bad apparently. Very sad really.

Don't overreact. The Bears won and you should be happy. The majority of fans in both cities behaved admirably.

okay, i didn't want to weigh in on this - but i've now gotten reports from two groups of people from NOLa who attended the game - these are veteran football fans who've attended lots of away games....both groups reported the same thing - chicago fans at the stadium during the game were beyond horrible to them (way past the normal heckling) and the police and stadium officials turned a blind eye - i'm sure both sides are guilty...but still, after hearing the reports, i kinda understand the post (not that it was right)

however, as a rule, these days, no matter what you're wearing in NOLa as long as your visiting and spending money we're happy your here...

As a Chicagoan and life long Bears fan, I truly am disgusted by this. Nobody
especially the Saints fans deserved to be treated like this. Definitely a lack of class by some of our "so called" fans. I know the Bears have a policy about objectional signs and fan conduct. If a blind eye was turned, that's even worse.
I forwarded the new story link to the Bears website and to the Mayor's Office to express my displeasure. Joking or not, this is unacceptable. They aught to know - it makes them and the city look bad. My apologies to the Saints fans that had to be treated like this.

i don't understand why you want to heckle a team you're beating.
anyway, i think that the strange new shape they added to the top of soldier field causes brain waves to alter - it really looks like a space ship, especially in the fog.
we went to the Rams/Bears game a few years ago, and everyone was very kind. odd they're nice when their team was sucking and rude now?

I dont know what happend at the game. I wasn't there. I do not agree with innocent people being harassed. Hell I gave a Rads NOLA shirt (very Saints looking) to my friend Erica who was supporting the Saints because she thought it would be nice for the city. I dont doubt for a minute that there were not so nice things happening at the game. I am not overreacting when people are actually posting something on a well-read pubic bulletin board such as NOLA.com that says if I wear a piece of Bears clothing in your city, I better be able to fight. If people at the game where out of line, then that was wrong. Please remember this. Chicago is a city of 3 million people. The Metro area is around 10 million. If by chance someone is hurt while visiting New Orleans because they were wearing Chicago Bears clothing, it certainly will not help the effort in bringing tourists from here down there. The actions of a few "fans" should not be held as the norm of Chicago character.

one thing I've learned are that at numerous football games and hockey games you will come across some nasty fans that are just pure trash and that's it. Chicago Bears fans are very well known for being nasty but that is only some of their fans and not all.

This is very common in cities like Chicago, Philly, New York and even Baton Rouge. I've hear that LSU fans are some of the nastiest in all of college football. It's just a fact that this is common at many football games. You throw in 70,000 plus people, a bunch of booze and some blue collar folks will lose their mind for three hours.

It's unfortunate but I know that I would be very careful to go to any stadium as an oppoising fan without knowing that team's fans reputation beforehand. I'm not making any excuses for the Bears fans, in fact I was pulling for the Saints, but I wouldn't get too worked up over a bunch of drunk asshole southsiders that said stupid shit to New Orleans fans. It's just a football game.

O.K., everyone...only knock the soup outta the ones that behave like a**holes! Got it?;) :D

I'm kidding, Mike. I personally don't understand the way fans behave. It isn't as if the players were born and bred in the cities they play for, is it? It's a pretty well known fact that most of the best players in the NFL come from two or three counties in Florida.

BTW, those forums on nola.com are full of nothing but trash talk, IMHO.

Well then why would you pretend a couple jackass posters speak for the City of New Orleans?....Going on to chat boards in the opposing city to tell them how great your team is the on-line equivalent of dancing on the home team's logo. You might anticipate getting people riled up.

I've done the opposite, worn Raider colors to Bill's game on several occasions. And back when both teams were good....it was always a little rough. Lots of fights. Course, I also brought a few Bills fans with me and made sure their tickets were in the row behind us. They took the brunt of the snowballs , trash and beer cups.

Oakland still has fans in the stands ... hmmm strange.

When Baltimore trounced them in the playoffs in 2000, a couple thousand Baltimore fans went to the game (a few friends of mine included), and were incident free. They just look scary ... Philly on the other hand ... they booed Santa Claus!!

PS Did anyone see the sign "The Bears will finish what Katrina started"? Absolute lack of class there!

I've been to plenty of red sox/yankees games and it can get pretty ugly - especially pre-2004 world championship (did anyone notice that happened! ha!) but there are definitely lines that shouldn't be crossed. Sounds like some of that came out at Soldier Field unfortunatley.

Chicago does have great fans, but just think how crazy/drunk you'd have to be to have faith in Rex Grossman - these guys obviously were not in a normal state!

When in town, I can wear a Packer shirt, show off my Packer tat's, and not worry about getting my a** kicked. There's some back n forth fan banter-part of being a fan, and a few beers shared.

Sorry to have been flippant on this thread... this is serious and crap stuff and is finding it's evil way everywhere.

We just had dreadful brawls at a friggin TENNIS match! And now the promoters of our 'Big Day Out' outdoor concert series (prolly the biggest music show in Oz.... in several different locations) have come out and said that the wearing and waving of Aussie flags is to be discouraged. Rumour has it that flags will be confiscated at entries... what a bunch of crap, it's part of our Australia Day celebrations for crying out loud! Why? Because we had some horrid 'race' tensions last year (dreadful) and the suits now believe that music lovers generally can't enjoy the show AND celebrate being an Aussie without it causing problems in our multicultural community. Give me strength. Your team, my team; your religion, my religion; your city/country, mine... Peace.

"91 NLCS between the Braves and the Pirates. Some drunken louts were giving these three ladies from Pittsburgh a hard time. I'm talking mom, daughter, and grandma. Everybody sitting around them told them to lay off but they ignored us. Finally, my buddy Ross(not Rossvegas)got up and walked over to where they were and told them if they didn't shut the fuck up, they'd be watching the rest of the game from the TV in the emergency room at Grady Hospital. They stood up and said, "You can't take all five of us by yourself." Ross just laughed and said, "I got everybody in this section behind me." and we all stood up. Needless to say they left.

People tend to forget it's only a game.

Please don't generalize all of us Bears Fans. My husband, who went to the game, prides himself on meeting everyone in his tailgate section. He even drove a couple lost Saints fans back to their hotel after the game. Every city has "bad seeds", but most of us are truly nice, and well behaved fans. And we're looking forward to coming down to Jazz Fest as usual!

Can't we all just get along?

So Ive been on a Rush kick recently ...

here are some fitting lyrics:

[from Second Nature]
Folks are basically decent
Conventional wisdom would say
Well we read about the exceptions
In the papers everyday

[From Territories]
They shoot without shame
In the name of a piece of dirt
For a change of accent
Or the color of your shirt
Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled

The whole wide world
An endless universe
Yet we keep looking through
The eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel
What international means
In different circles, we keep holding our ground
In different circles, we keep spinning round and round

This isnt about being in an opposing stadium. It is about being targeted on the street because of your clothing. Whats next..My Sox cap? I go back to my story of my friend who got his pocket picked to the tune of 1500 bucks during the Sugar Bowl. Should that reflect on the entire New Orleans community? Nope. But like a wise man said a few posts ago...It was only a game. Not the start of a new Civil War.

Totally agree - there is no need to get nasty on a personal level. Reacting to the game is one thing, but everyone is there to have a good time and root on their team.

Maybe I am just a happy, enthuisastic drunk at games, but the last thing I want is to get in a fight. Just silly.

Mike,

Hey I am not into people getting all wrapped up into their team and threatening people for wearing an oposing teams jersey. But just for the record my pal and I went to see the Stars play the Hawks back in 1989 in Chicago. As we were leaving the game (stars won) my pal got cold cocked by die-hard Chicago fan for wearing his Northstars jersey. Chicago fans are no example of purity in sports. He lost 5 teeth and we spent the night in the hospital. I am sure the Chicago fans have mellowed since then right? NOT! Always expect the unexpected...

Yes, folks should be wary of the Raider Nation. When I was married and living in L.A. during the Raiders sojourn, my ex-in-laws used to get free Raiders tickets from their neighbors who were season ticket holders (and the Raiders sucked) . . . anyhoo, it was a bit of a tossup as to which was more dangerous - the Raiders Nation inside L.A. Coliseum or the Crips and Bloods in South Central outside.

Indeed, while Oaktown is indeed bad - at least fans there have NEVER booed Santa Claus as Philly fans did once (and I'm sure they all got coal in their stockings that Christmas)!!

A few years ago when the Eagles went to the Super Bowl, a newspaper ran an above-the-fold picture of some Eagle fans. Here their team is going to the Super Bowl, and they look pissed as hell. About what? I've see pictures of prison riots with happier looking people.
