For you guys that don't know the Underdawgs, they are a new band made up of phenomenal nola musicians. Shamarr Allen former front man and trumpeteer of Rebirth, Willie Green from the Nevilles on drums, Elliott Cohn from the Cosmic Sweat Society on guitar and more (I can't remember them all) but they are a sweet, new, New Orleans Funk rock band. You are gonna LOVE them!!!

So far, the food committee is planning to use Tip, the caterer from last year. David will repeat his crawfish bread tradition, providing we can use Mitchel's grill and hopefully get our gas grill there, as well. That way he can make 3 or 4 at a time. (They really are best eaten fresh off the grill or oven) And homemade deserts being provided by food committee members and others.
Food commitee mission statement:

One of the things the people on the talent committee tried to do was pick bands that we can't see almost any night of the week during fest- either at the fairgrounds or nightshows. Gumbohead is a one shot deal during fest, the Underdawgs won't be playing all over (or maybe they will be by then!), Papa Mali and friends are going to be a unique mish-mosh of musicians just for the patry and the Rads play maybe once or twice during fest. I love Kermit, Rebirth etc. BUT we can see them almost anywhere, any night during fest week. Does that make sense?? We wanted to make it as unique as possible......
Gumbohead is a one shot deal during fest
Usually, yes. This year they are networking to get a couple of openers for shows. They have a few connections. Maybe the Underdawgs can help them out?

oh man, that's AWESOME Jada! You have to keep us posted for where okay?
Will do. I remember TIm telling me that a couple of years ago, there was some band (gawd, I wish I could remember who) that they knew and was invited up on stage to play with. DAMN! I wish I could remember who it was? I'll have to ask him.
I'm so glad that the original percussionist and rubboard player is joining them this year. Don't get me wrong...I think Rick did a great job filling in for Ron last year at the patry. That was very nice of him to do that. It's just that Ron friggin' smokes on the board and the congas. He is a music teacher and it's difficult for him to get off work during the schoolyear.

Because my life is good & I'm a spoiled brat!:D
1st weekend, The Patry, Ingrid's, entire Daze Between is out due to my daughter's singing performances in Chicago with her H.S. chorale. We just received the firm dates.
The time I'll be getting in from Chicago turns out to be the time I was planning to leave for the Fest.
Then, I'd only be able to stay one day, due to the Prom. She's a senior this year and I really cannnot miss her big day! Looks like my only choice is to come in on 2nd Saturday for the last day of Fest. It sounds crazy, but I'm actually considering it!:)
If not, there's always next year for Fest...

wow Nellie, that sucks but so good for the Squirrel :) You're a good momma. So as your reward I ORDER you to fly in for 2nd Saturday, morning flight preferably with return on Tuesday after so you can do the Monday in-stores which are fantastic and maybe catch one more show before you go home. That's an order missy...got it?? ;)

I like the way you think, corona! The more I think about it, the more sense it makes! It's definitely do-able, even if I can't stay my usual 8-9 daze!

Yes, Ozzie...the one in the same.
Last year she tricked me. Said she didn't want to go to the big dance. She waited 'til I was booked & confirmed for Jazz Fest, then says,"mom, I think I want to go to prom after all", because she knew I'd feel obligated to participate in the occasion.
DAGNABBIT... Can't believe we'll miss each other again, Ozzie. :( Maybe we'll have to see about getting corona, grisgris and pokerchip to kidnap you and keep you in NOLA until I get there!;)

I have finally convinced my hubby to leave his landscaping business at the height of the season to stay a couple of extra days for this patry---I pray that we will be able to secure two tix when they go on sale! It's critical! If the stars align I will receive the word early enough to get our tix and we will be there!

Well as a newbie to this whole JF thing, we screwed up big time. Oh well, we will know better next year.:o

As a consolation we have tickets for the Radiators at Southport Hall.;)

Southport is a great venue - spacious & clean. they actually have a parking lot, but its a bit of a cab ride if you're staying in the FQ. you'll enjoy this show.
you will be so exhausted on monday, you'll be happy when you see your own bed.

The location of this year's Patry will only be disclosed to ticket-holders. But the venue is comparable to last years.

Neen, those pics are fantastic!!!!
Mdfest, the view from upstairs was fantastic but we didn't go up last year because there were permanent residents in that apartment instead of us Threadheads renting it.
Re: not disclosing the location....because we don't want to cause too much of a ruckus in the neighborhood (ie. drawing TOO much attention to the patry) we try to keep the location off the boards and websites....especially this year with the Rads playing...

I've told this story once before, but my favourite memory of last year's patry was spotting Charmaine Neville grooving to Gumbohead on the other side of the gates. The band was playing Hey Pocky Way (I think) and she just happened to be walking past on her way to a gig in the Marigny. As I approached her, she kept saying "that's my family's song!" How cool was that?
As for those who think the lineup isn't what they had hoped for, I think a little perspective is in order. You are going to be attending a private party in New Orleans with a very limited number of people in attendance. The food is great, the company is wonderful, the music will be fantastic...but be warned: last year someone put BOOZE in the jello squares! And don't get me started on those brownies... :>)
