The dilemma of the day for us yesterday was Stevie vs the Clifton Chenier tribute to close out Day 2. Stevie vs Sonny... Stevie vs Sonny, Buckwheat Zydeco, Sunpie, CJ, Leon Sam, and others. Sonny on stage vs ???? Ok, so not so much a dilemma after all. We chose Fais Do Do over Acura and it was a BLAST!
One after another, the accordion masters gave their all in tribute to Clifton Chenier. First with one, then another, the rains came and the rains left; the ponchos went on and came off; and the umbrellas went up and down... and it was all great FUN! The rain actually added to the feeling rather than taking anything away.
I wondered if bluesgirl and I were part of only a small handful of folks who would choose to skip Stevie in favor of the accordion greats and Sonny but a quick look around showed a Fais Do Do area full of poncho-covered, umbrella-protected fans all stompin' to great music in the rain.
I'm happy to read the Stevie reviews and see that it was a good time for those over at the Acura stage. I'm even happier to see that Stevie will be in Chicago for a free concert in June but I'm most happy with our decision to avoid the masses, go with our hearts, and enjoy a part of the feast that appeals to us more than seeing the biggest name on the docket.
