Yes...and it was only because that was where we took refuge in the downpour. Unusual and not really my kind of music, but super talented and by the end he had even the uninterested part of the crowd cheering (including me).

One of my favorite shows of the day ... I was watching the Wetlands All-Stars, which was kind of tepid given all the talent on stage. As I headed away after half a dozen tunes I felt rain starting and sprinted to the blues tent about 30 seconds ahead of the crowd. Managed to score a seat 15 rows back and was quickly entranced by the show. Not only the main guy but the guy playing the vibe-like instrument was amazing. The show reminded me of a Mickey Hart thing at its best.

yea u rite twangster...the vibe like thing is a balfone...and he was amazing..its where the vibes and marimba descended from...
the main guy Mamadou diabate was playing a kora...21 strings...
they threatened to kick me out cuz i was dancing 2 much.....
strange placement in the blues tent...altho he did do a little blues riff or 2..
its like putting the red hot chilli peppers on the louisiana folk life stage...he belonged on congo square stage, but we would have been soaked...

Yes -- he was amazing! Nancy had the joke of the night when she turned to me and said, "that guy must be great at texting". By the way, he played almost the exact same set at the langiappe stage

He was off my "radar screen" so we missed him. Thanks for the review.
