Any advice on shows "not to miss" -http://www.jazzfestgrids.com/weekend-1

any of them.

Sorry - I couldn't resist. My advice to anyone who asks this question is - go for someone you haven't seen before - and then go to the show of your most favorite performer.

There is so much that weekend - maybe you check out performers at the night shows that you didn't get to catch on the fairgrounds.

I know that doesn't seem like any help - but without knowing what you like - blues, jazz, both - hard rock - all of it - it's kinda tough.

Since you've got Anders Osborne in your avatar, you might enjoy knowing that Chickie Wah Wah is now listing him as one of the performers at Papa Mali's Stoned Soul Picnic on Saturday, 4/26.

....and just to throw one more show into the mix, that Krown, Batiste, Washington show with Barbara Mason, Eric Krasno and possibly Shamar at the Rusty Nail first Saturday looks like fun!!

IT'S ALMOST JAZZFEST!!!!

This is what I love about Jazzfest - ask 20 people who they're going to see and you'll get 18 different answers. And the same is true if you ask 20 people what food they're looking forward to at the fairgrounds.

Hey Jay! Good to see you, man! When are you coming down this year? (You ARE coming down, right?)

Hey guys,

Total self-interest here since I'm the promoter/bandleader on the show, but Saturday night at Old Point not only are we having Betty Harris (who does less club dates in a year than most artists do in a week), but the opener will be Ernie Vincent, harmonica ace Patrick Williams (of Rockin' Dopsie Jr.'s band, Clapton's current first call harp player, and he's playing Little Walter in the Chess Records movie that is currently being filmed here) and myself doing an acoustic set, and I have never seen Ernie do an acoustic set. We jammed acoustic at my house the other day, and man, does Ernie do the old style blues for real. Ernie and Patrick will stick around for the late-nite, post Betty electric set with my band, Rick Trolsen, et al. We will be doing the Dap Walk for sure!

So I hope my recommendation might still ring in your ears, even if I can't claim objectivity. For more info on Betty Harris and the shows at Old Point, please visit my site at www.marcstonemusic.com. Thanks

Sunday night MUST: Leo Nocentelli's Rare Funk Gathering at Tip's, featuring Leo of the Meters, Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic, and Doug Winbush and Will Calhoun of Living Color.

Leo last played a Fest night show with these musicians at Mama's Blues on Rampart Street in 2003. It was under the radar, wicked and sizzling. I thought it was the best show of the entire Fest.

There's gonna be a ferocious funkgasm at Tipitina's Sunday night!! :D
