Went and picked up my Brass Pass today from wwoz - I got confirmation from the folks at wwoz that YES they only have a LIMITED NUMBER of Brass Passes and when they sell out, they sell out. They also requested that if all possible, people buy them early, rather than waiting - it apparently makes life easier for them if they do sell out early - also, after being there, wwoz is a pretty small operation, considering everything it does ..... there were only about four people in the office while i was there .... so i'm thinking, anything we can do to make there lives easier would be good - for those that don't know (i know, i'm kind of preaching to the choir here) the Brass Pass is $350 (considered a donation to wwoz, and i believe, is at least partially tax deductable) - it gives you "in/out privileges" at the Fest and access to the wwoz hospitality tent - if your interested, email Robin@wwoz.org and she'll set you up (or go to the website, wwoz.com)
Also, the good folks at wwoz also confirmed that gate ticket prices will be going up this year, $40 at the gate - still a bargan for what you get......but another better reason to buy in advance....
Sorry if this is kind of long, but wanted to share the info.....

I splurged for a Brass Pass last year (as I had waited too late to get mail order passes at the lowest rate) and it was $40 at the gate . . . so I figured if I was gonna be spending almost $300 at the gate, I might as well spend a wee bit more and benefit OZ.
I would say it was worth it for the nice, clean, always toilet paper enabled Porta Potties and the bottled water. The buffet . . . well, I guess at 'Fest that I'm just not that into healthy fresh fruit salad. Unlimited In/Out privileges I haven't had to use in my years of festing, but I can see how that could be beneficial for other folks. It was mostly worth it to help support my favorite radio station!
However, I do wish that WWOZ would institute a montlhly payment option - like PBS stations do with their pledge drives. It would make donating larger amounts to OZ much, MUCH easiler than plunking down $$$ all at one time. I would give even more than $350 if I could spread it out over the year.
Thanks all. We are strongly considering BP's this year.

I've worked pledge drives for my local community radio station (a much smaller operation than OZ), and their rule was that the pledge had to be paid in full (credit card ok'ed, check cleared, etc) before sending out any pledge premiums. Otherwise, you get too many deadbeats who get their swag and don't pay.
So to get a brass pass that way, you'd have to start paying monthly the previous April.

Good point, Swagster - it's true that different stations have different policies . . . the one to which I donate money and for which I've worked on their pledge drives, only take EBT for the monthly payments. That way, they are able to give the premiums and they will still get their monthly payments.
I would think that OZ could do the same - I would GLADLY give them an EBT donation - and then they could give out the Brass Passes in a timely fashion. Not to mention that I think OZ could benefit financially much more from regular, monthly income than from irregular, inconsistent donations.

I have just been on WWOZ web site for info of this years Brass Passes. The site seems terribly out of date i.e. still has 2006 info.
Am I using the correct link? http://www.wwoz.org/membership.php
Is there somewhere else I can get info from?

Do you think that they will still be available in about 2 weeks? I can afford to get one then.

I think you'll be good - might want to email Robin@wwoz.org just to check - she knows how many they have to sell and can probably let you know how many they have left (when i picked up the three that i needed, we were #189, 190, and 191)
It's hard to believe that they could sell out in February.
But it's also hard to believe that the poster line could be 3 hours long, so what do I know...
