Thanks Maggie, but very outdated. At least one of these has been gone for 6 or 7 years. There is a good updated list at www.threadheads.org .

Many, many of these are closed & I think the Fatted Calf, Lucky Cheng's (drag queen waitresses) and the hummingbird closed in the early 90s. :)

A fun thing to do if you are into cooking is to make reservtions at the New Orleans School of Cooking. They demo the cooking and teach the class and then you eat the food. It took from 10-12:30 or something like that.

Maybe something to do for the daze between. We really enjoyed ourselves.

I really miss the Hummingbird. I think it closed about the time Eileen and I got married in 2001. I knew I loved her when I took her there our first trip to N.O. together. A street character sat down next to her, and she took it all in stride. One of the ladies tossed him out (he had been going from table to table). She yelled, "You're 86'ed!!!!" And he replied, "What about my f*ckin' french fries?" After she wanted to go back the next time, I knew she was a keeper.

Nothing like paying your meal tab and checking in at the same spot. Never did it, but it was intriguing.

now, that's what i'm talkin' about. there used to be a little place on the way to the outer banks....in kingston, nc, i beleive...beautiful restaurant...very rustic....they build the place around these large trees...you walked on planks around them and read you're menu by candlelight...and they have a little 10 room 'motor lodge' attached. very cute.
