One of the first things I do when we walk into the fest is buy a program. Inside the program are a bunch of coupons for food and drink, mostly for 50 cents or a dollar off. Does any one use these? every year my wife buys something from a vendor that has a coupon in the book but refuses to use the coupon?? So I end up getting it for her with the coupon, and when I hand it to the vendor its like I'm the first one using it? Cheap Guy???
Another thing that I feel a little cheap about is buying those specialty drinks. i.e. Strawberry lemonade, rosemint ice tea, ect. ect. every year I stand in line, watch them FILL a big cup with ice and squirt about 16 ounces of liquid in the cup. and I fork over $4.00! I have never seen anyone ask for one with no ice? And i haven't had the courage to ask either! I don't want to be considered a cheap guy??? I usually suck those things down in about 2 minutes flat and Im left with a FULL cup of ice!? Along with the softside cooler already filled with my own ice.
Is it cheap of me to ask for one with no ice??
ps: Dont worry! you wont find me parking over night in someones driveway peeing in gatorade bottles...;)

I can't speak to the coupon usage, but the ice is invaluable to chill the rhum and vodka. maybe with a splash you would appreciate the ice more!

I used to use the coupons, but now I'm too cheap to buy the program

I'll have to try asking for less ice ... thanks for the idea.
I buy the program and get my money back by using most of the food coupons over the course of 7 days. The vendors PAY to have the coupons printed in the program and using them is how they know the cost is justified.
It's not cheap, it's a perfectly acceptable way of stretching your dollars.

I never buy the program, so I never use those, but every year (usually) one of the coffee vendors posts a coupon online & we print them out & hand them out in line for their coffee.
Neen, have you seen that cool brew coupon for this year??

I saw on another thread that Saturn/Kathy had emailed Cool Brew for info. I've never seen the follow-up post, but I'd love to get those coupons again this year!

I emailed them too but didn't get an answer. Looked on their website today and didn't see it or any mention of fest.

how much are the programs? i have never purchased one (offbeat is my program!), but i met a guy while huddled in the blues tent during the second week weather last year who buys one every year and uses it to take detailed notes on which stages he goes to, what he eats, and who he runs into and chats with...i initially thought he was charting out his day in advanced, but he says he uses it as a way to remember what he does at the fairgrounds...he has been going since the 70s and he said it all sort of runs together after a while...nice to have something to job the memory...
with this being my 7th year, and the memories already getting kinda jumbled, i think i might bite his style and buy myself a program this year...
so, back to my original question...how much are they?? $5??

for several years i carried a 'diary' to log the fest. never happened. quit carrying it. but now people talk about shows, and i honestly cannot tell you if i saw zztop or not. sad? not really, i remember i that it was always awesomely fun. hedonists dont need documentation.
but the program makes a nice coffee table book.

Cheap sounds so cheap. i prefer to be frugal.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frugality
Frugality (also known as thrift or thriftiness ) is the practice of acquiring goods and services at minimum cost, achieved via economical restraints or creative measures. Frugality can be related to the idea of being conservative or conserving money.
Strategies for frugality
Common strategies of frugality include the reduction of waste, curbing costly habits, suppressing instant gratification by means of fiscal self-restraint, seeking efficiency, avoiding traps, defying expensive social norms, embracing free (as in gratis) options, using barter, and staying well-informed about local circumstances and both market and product/service realities.

I think they were $5. It's about time for them to go up, though.
They're also great to have handy when you bump into your favorite musician so you can get an autograph. It becomes a great souvenir!

My 5 dollar program turned out to be free, used a bunch of dollar off coupons and yes I still got the same look from the vendors??? "Where do you get these things???"
By the way, If you see mdfest ask him for some.... I sold him all my leftover coupons for $2.50!... he said it was a great deal!
