New Orleans:* The Music Tent* is a gathering place where New Orleans
music culture is celebrated and vital community interests are
addressed. Taking place during the first weekend of the New Orleans
Jazz and Heritage Festival in the neighborhood that defines New
Orleans music: Faubourg Treme. Faubourg Treme is a neighborhood that
continues to suffer the aftermath of Katrina. During this year Music
Tent activities participants will seek input from agencies and experts
on health, education, housing and economic development.

The Music Tent will showcase the new developments in the N.
Claiborne/St. Bernard Corridor, including the opening of the Succor
Wellness Center at 1520 N. Claiborne Avenue, a community planning
session on the future of the North Claiborne/St. Bernard Avenue
community, a seminar on health, education, housing and economic
development, a community health fair, an exercise and dance workshop.

Tulane University Center for Public Service and its local partners
will kick off the Music Tent with their Spring 2008 Showcase.

Music Business Institute will host a “T. G. I. Jazz Fest Party”, open
to the public, April 24 the day before the start of the Jazz Fest. The
party will celebrate the New Orleans music traditions. All activities
at the Music Tent will take place in an area between the Neighborhood
Civic and Arts Center and Ernie K-Doe’s Mother-in-Law Lounge.

The Music Tent will be located in a space between 1520-24 North
Claiborne Avenue, the Neighborhood Civic and Arts Center and the Ernie
K-Doe Mother-in-Law Lounge.
