Harry to close Jazzfest?
Thursday, 14 December 2006 at 1:47 PM
This morning on WWOZ (the best radio station for all things New Orleans), Bob French stated that Harry would be playing the closing show at the 2007 Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans. That would be on Sunday, May 6th.

The official lineups for Jazzfest won't be released until February, so we'll have to wait a bit longer for confirmation.

Harry was scheduled to play Jazzfest in 2004 as part of the 'Only You' tour, but the performance was rained out.

Is it too late to vote in that poll? :)

I just got this in my email:

"Harry Connick Jr. Goes Back To New Orleans Roots With Oh My Nola
Even with his recent Broadway success in The Pajama Game, New Orleans has never been far from Harry Connick's mind. To aid in the reconstruction effort, Harry Connick Jr. created an unprecedented musical cornucopia of songs inspired by and associated with the Crescent City.

This new album, entitled Oh My Nola, contains New Orleans favorites such as "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey," "Hello, Dolly," and "Jambalaya," as well as two originals "Do That Thing" and "All These People"-- inspired by the suffering Connick witnessed when he visited New Orleans in the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina.

A portion of the royalties from Oh My Nola will will benefit the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village. This project, conceived by Connick and his longtime friend and colleague Branford Marsalis, will consist of single-family homes and elder-friendly duplexes as well as the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music."

Also, when you click on this link, you can also hear his new song, "All These People". It's good. Brought tears to my eyes.

This is retyped from the T-P:

Jazzfest will have a Harry ending this year

The producers of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival plan to release the 2007 lineup on Thursday. But the name of the festival's closing act has slipped out early - and it is, once again, not the Neville Brothers

Just as they did in 2006, the Nevilles have decided not to perform at Jazzfest, in part because of singer Aaron Neville's concerns about aggravating his asthma. Instead, another local favorite will close out Jazzfest's main stage on Sunday, May 6: Harry Connick, Jr.

Connick and his big band likely will showcase material from his forthcoming "Oh, My Nola" album, to be released on Jan. 30. On the album, he covers New Orleans standards associated with the likes ofAllen Toussaint, Lee Dorsey, Dr. Johnand Louis Armstrong; he also contributes four original recordings.
