Has anyone had a chance to see one of these shows. It was amazing last night, what a band. Paul is doing a 3 week run at a 2000 person opera house as a benefit for The Brooklyn Academy Of Music. Each week a different theme. Last night was songs from Graceland and Rhythm Of The Saints.
FEATURING PERFORMANCES BY DAVID BYRNE, KAÏSSA, LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO, VUSI MAHLASELA, LUCIANA SOUZA, CYRO BAPTISTA, PAUL SIMON
Paul and David were great to talk to after the show, sweet guys!

In an unprecedented month-long residency at BAM, Paul Simon collaborates with an extraordinary range of artists to offer three musical constellations from the career of one of America's greatest songwriters.
Latin beats and 50s doo-wop fill New York City's nights with Songs from The Capeman. In Under African Skies, Simon rekindles a love affair with the sounds of South Africa and Brazil which began with his masterpieces Graceland and The Rhythm of the Saints. Finally, Simon revisits the quiet railway stations, urban rhythms, and immigrant dreams of his greatest American Tunes.

I was at the Sat night show of Under African Skies, I saw the Capeman prior to that, and I just make American Tune the night before I leave for Nola.
There is a very brief clip from the Capeman show on Youtube. There is also 1/2 of Under African Skies show on Dime. I hear a full show may turn up.
You can't go by me- my name is a hint- I am a lifelong Paul Simon fan and I think the man and his music are genius. So yeah, I liked the show. Oh and yeah- I hear the BAM shows will be released on DVD and CD somewhere down the road.........
and thanks for posting the great pics!!

I'll happily resurrect for those lucky TH the memory of Simon @ Fest w/ Irma for Bridge over Troubled Waters. Amazing song, never more so. Glad you caught a BAM show, I hope they make more $$ w/ a DVD release. I'll contribute happily!

I wanted to go to this as it is just a couple of blocks away (BAM). I haven't been able to attend though. :( Sounds like it has been amazing as I thought it would.

Now I'm jealous!!! I love Paul Simon, and have wonderful memories of my one show at BAM, back in 1970: Allen Ginsberg, Joy of Cooking (girl band from Berserkley), & The Band" awesome...
"graceland" got me thru a horrible depression when it first came out, IMHO was the best album of the 80s. I really dug "Capeman" too, it was never a commercial success, partly because the play that it was soundtrack for was shut down pretty quick. The play & album were about a gang killing in about 1960, and the relatives of the victim protested & picketed the play.
Oh well, still great music... Brooklyngal get yo butt down there before its too late!!!
