the tampa bay (fantastic waterside location in downtown st. pete of course) gig for both fri and sat is lookin' more than fine... light breeze,.. plenty of sun,.. with a pleasant mix of clouds,.. mid to low 80's,.. headin' down to the very low 70's for the evenin' acts...
gotta take a pass on the final day sunday as the far betta' half has relatives comin' in for an overseas visit,.. james hunter is leavin' u.s.,.. but the swedes are comin'... luckily the lineup for the first two days is where we would place our dancin' shoes if we had to choose,.. and so we did......

For those of you in/near Live Oak, Florida -- DON'T MISS Scrapomatic at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Scrapomatic is Mike Mattison (lead singer of the Derek Trucks Band) who has a voice that will blow you away (my current favorite vocalist) and Paul Olsen who writes most of the songs and plays good guitar. It's stripped down blues and roots music at its finest.

Man I WISH I was at the Wanee Festival right now....
But, I'm not.
Dang it all!
However, I WILL be at the Blues Fest on Friday - and now I gotta find a way to get off work even earlier in order to catch Billy Gibson!
Yeah. Thanks a lot, Blues Fest. :( Now I have to miss work in order to drink and dance and get my blues on down by the water side...
Sheesh.
Question: Can you even HAVE the blues when you live in paradise? ;)
Never mind, I know you can....
PaulC, I'll be looking for the nut and kabuki down there. I plan to arrive around 2, but will try to get there earlier for Billy G....
Look for me right of the soundboard somewhere.
Peace yall.
Is it Jazz Fest YET?!?

bummin' big time :( that we are gonna completely miss at least the first of the two acts that you mentioned stax... checked out billy gibson not too long atfa' they put the lineup out... very much like that sound.... i would hope that you are fortunate enough to see them often on beale street....
the far betta' half keeps insistin' on workin' until 1 p.m. tomorrow,.. despite my repeated beggin' and pleadin',.. and it's jus' a lil' too far away for a two car thing...
will hopefully get there in time to catch the last half of Nick Moss,.. that is if the fish filled waters just north and south of the sunshine skyway bridge don't grab hold of me.. maybe jus' a few casts (which turns into a couple of dozen at the very least)... the car rarely moves this time of year without a fishin' pole on hand..... jus' finished prepin' a tasty snook fillet for tonights fare... she put up quite the fight last night but i coaxed her in jus' lil' past sunset at a very renowned hot fishin' spot that is but three minutes down the road from home base...
sorry to bore with the fishin' story but it's been that time of year again for the past six weeks or so... the spring bite in Florida is a wonderful thing.... it is an addiction that renews itself every year about this time... fish,.. then fest.....
the pompano are runnin',.. the snook are thick (but all too cunnin') ,.. the reds and trout are active,.. blues, jacks, and lady fish,.. all strong as bulls,.. are everywhere and they hit anything and everything.... then just offshore ya' got the snapper and grouper doin' their thing,.. mackerels and cobia are in town too... no end to the possibilities so gettin' ova' that water tomorrow without stoppin' will be a task... definitely will "catch" all of lucky peterson, james hunter, and robert cray even if the call of the fishies "catches" me first....

caught mr. mattison not too many weeks back with trucks,.. the dude has got himself a voice that is for sure...

Billy's on the Bluesapaloosa tour right now with Bobby Rush and Janiva Magness in Iraq. Years ago he led the house band of our blues jam that I emceed. He is probably the most underrated harp player out there. The last couple of years he has begun to get known and is playing lots of festivals. There aren't many harmonica players I put ahead of him, and I've seen all the greats. He's also a great entertainer.

iraq??... right now???... and we got two of the three in town this weekend,.. should we break out the flack jackets and helmets??...
as previously mentioned,.. goin' to miss both gibson and magness due to the far betta' half and her "otha' plans".... may have to reconsider that "far betta'" tag.....
jus' a few more turns of the hour dial until the good times begin to roll down here...... two great days/nights await,... but truthfully,.. here i sit and keep lookin' at what is in store this weekend for those that will be gettin' their wishes fulfilled at the french quarter festival... can't help but wish we were headin' into town for that slice of heaven... i guess our lil' 2nd fiddle soiree down here will have to do....
hopin' that you lucky diggity doggies that are in new orleans this weekend don't encounter too many drops from above in the next 24 hrs..... your forecast for sat and sunday looks to be pure nirvana at this point...
