1. The Perrier Soul Lounge Tribute to James Brown's Funky People featuring Renard Pochet and Tony Hall @ the Maple Leaf late-night Thursday May 1 into Friday mo'nin'. Last year's Perrier Lounge show was the under-the-radar funk blast of the entire fest. I'm not sure how DJ Logic will fit into this band lineup, but I do know Renard Pochet is absolutely wicked on the axe, and he has a great chemistry with Tony Hall! Prepare to be funked up.
2. Shamarr and the Underdawgs at the Rusty Nail Saturday night. I haven't been there since it was the Mermaid Lounge and I am THRILLED that the place is back in business. There's nothing like finding your way there on the one-way streets. It's like a secret, even though it's not.
3. I'm with you about Tab, Big Chief and Sansone at Preservation Hall. That place is mystical, mythical, whatever-the-h*ll you wanna call it. I just picked up Sansone's last album and I can't wait to hear him blow that harp with Tab on Thursday May 1. This will be a special gig!

some of the super gigs only happen during fest, but you can usually hear those bands separately other times, other places. and december is a great time to visit and hit all the restaurants.
i would do the things that only happen during that week - that arent too crowded or too late - that involve music, food & great people.

2. seeing Tab at RnB with Sue and Ann, and spending the entire night laughing our asses off at all the crazy things that always seem to happen when we do... and with any of our other friends who are there... oh what a night it always turns out to be... but just seeing Tab in NOLA is always just so great.
