Starting to pull some plans together for a dinner or two and one of our group said one of his friends recommended these places---Ironically, I've not been nor heard of any of them and was thinking more along the Bayona or Dick and Jenny's route but I'm open to ideas...soooooo, please chime in on the following:
Tony Morans
Zea Restaraunt
Begue's
Ralph's on The Park
Thanks!

Wow on the first three...must be insider local joints or outside Nawlins proper. Maybe some of the yokels will have some input.
Had a good experience at Ralph's OTP. Gorgeous building in a scenic location, very good service and above average food. Would not be my first choice but for large groups or an off the beaten FQ, CBD, Warehouse District, etc. path option, it would be a worthwhile.

I love Ralph's on the Park. It's a Brennan's restaurant with a beautiful view of City Park. They sat 13 of us THs at a moment's notice during Satchmofest and the meal was fantastic.
Zea's is ok for something more casual. It's a chain, but a local chain.
Begue's & Tony Moran's I haven't been to in many years.

We are doing much of the same at the moment. Going to Commanders Palace first weekend, and then we have a big huge crazy table at K Pauls for second weekend. Currently trying to get somewhere for Wednesday of the tween week, but everywhere we want to go seems booked solid...
You should check out Cochon (http://www.cochonrestaurant.com/) if you are so inclined..we ate there last year and it was the bomb. I really want to try and go to Brigtsen's (http://www.brigtsens.com/) this year, but the books are very very full. I also keep hearing good things about Bayona, but by the time we called to confirm they werent able to seat us till 11pm on second friday (!!!!)...
The fact of the matter is, there is so much good food to eat in NOLA, you can go to many many places and be satisfied and happy...
Happy hunting!

Thanks--yes, we try at least one new (to us) place each year and tend to stay away from the real touristy spots which is why I'm asking for input as the hunt continues...I am leaning toward ROP or Cochon based on what's being said here and some other reviews on the Internet...of course, some of this will depend on availability...better get on the phone

We did our one new fancy dinner place every year, last year, at Stella! It was fabulous, very unique and yet very New Orleans. Nice location in a quiet area of the quarter. $$$$$$

hey glinda, is it rude of me to ask how expensive ? we are thinking of going to Stella!. it sounds like it was worth the cost to you. What did you order? anything to avoid? thanks

I love Ralphs! But it's the only one of those 4 where I've had the pleasure. :

A group experience at Tujage's is good. For cheap good N'awlins southern comfort food go to Ye Olde College Inn at the end of the Carrollton Street car where the St. Charles streetcar turns onto (Carrollton).

I don't remember exactly, but Zagat's estimate is $56 for dinner and one drink. There wasn't anything we didn't like. The desserts - i think we had the dessert tasting - were especially good, like the griled cheese sandwich with dark chocolate, and there was another dessert with jalapenos. Weird, but wonderful.
