LIVE ALBUM RECORDING (Mem's first)
Friday, February 9th
Tipitina's - New Orleans, LA
9PM Doors - $5 cover!
Important letter to you, our fans and friends:
As you can see, we have decided it's time to make our first live album! We wanted to reach out to you, our fans, to help get it done. It's never easy to have one's hand out and some of our fans (you know who you are) blew us away with amazing charity in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. We were luckier than most, though we still had a band spread out, living on the road, buying new clothes and we lost a ton of work and money. You guys helped tremendously and we're slowly catching up. However, the music business is never easy and staying on the road to perform and make new fans and friends is a challenge. Whether it's the price of gas or just the cost of living, it's rarely profitable to follow one's dream and/or take the creative path!
We have a wonderful label behind us in NorthernBlues Music, but most record labels have felt their own financial crunch over the last few years. Our situation is that we need to deliver them a finished record, and then they do their part to promote and distribute it, which they do well.
2005-2006 really was a banner year for us. All 13 songs on the April 2005 From Phunkville CD were played at radio, on various music formats. That's huge! We had great reviews and Mem was nominated for two 2006 Blues Music Awards in the Soul Blues category. Now is the time to finally get out Mem's first live CD, followed by another studio album in late 2007 or early 2008. We are anxious to promote something new and continue to reach new fans.
That all leads to this: we have no budget for the album ourselves. We want to reach out to you guys to be a part of this recording and help us get it made. Our plan is do record it live at Tipitina's in New Orleans and to get it out in time for Jazz Fest. We have a date set for February 9th and we have the mobile recording truck and engineers all set. The total cost will be about $7,000 to record with the mobile studio (run by people we know, trust and have worked with before), master, design and deliver a finished product. To pull this off, we're hoping you will order CD's in advance. They will all be autographed and your name will be included on our website and/or CD in a special thank you note. We also welcome any larger contributions. If over $200, it will be paid back in full as the CD's sell (we'll get semi-annual accountings and payments from our label to send your way). For larger amounts (over $500), you will be named to our list of Executive Producers. You will be directly involved in making this album. We will run final mixes and song sequence/order by you for approval or feedback and input. Same with the design (packaging). You will have credit on the album as an Executive Producer, on our website and so on. We will get you copies of the CD signed and we will also include you on our guest list for any shows you wish to see, as long as we have the ability (depends on the show, the venue, etc). For LIFE. We want you on our team and will also pay you back in full from sales.
-$17 per CD - advance orders, autographed (includes shipping and handling) & you'll get a copy in April when everyone else has to wait until June.
-$50-$100 - Silver Sponsorship - includes special online thank you's, and 2 autographed CD's.
-$200-$500 - Gold Sponsorship - same as the Silver but we'll pay you back in full and include you in the CD credits in a special thank you list.
-Over $500 - Executive Producer - you will be paid back as a first priority from sales, given Exec Producer credit and inclusion in the process of finalizing the CD details, artwork, etc. We'll also send you 4+ autographed CD's (more of course for larger contributions). And guest list for life!
Banks don't make loans to musicians and life on the road is hand-to-mouth. So we'd love your help! You'll be paid back in full and we hope you'll enjoy working with us to get this album out and to be a really essential part of our team and our family.
However, even just ordering CD's in advance will be huge. If enough of you do that and buy 1-2, we'll be set and our touring income for the next 6 months can remain focused on bills and gasoline, rather than all going towards this project.
