I see Irma Thomas and the Professionals playing three nights second weekend at Generations Hall. I've never been to that place. Anyone know anything about the place or this show? Where is Andrew Higgins Bl.? Thanks in advance for the info.

Generations Hall is in the Warehouse District, within walking distance of the convention center, Sugar Mill, Contemporary Arts Center, Howlin Wolf and Republic, among others. It is less than ten years old and has enough space to have hosted Piano Night before it moved to HOB. It is a nice venue and regularly holds events a little more on the upscale side of things. I think it is a fine venue to hear Irma and I am considering going one of the nights myself.

It's over on the far (upriver) side of the warehouse district.

They used to hold Piano Night there before the thing. It's a nice room - actually a few rooms. The main room is much larger than Irma's old club the Lion's Den.

It's good to see the place up and running again. I hope they have a full jazz fest schedule. It really is a unique space for music, and is bigger than many places were there is music. Personally, I wish Piano Night would move back there, but HOB does offer a certain convenience, I suppose...

You people amaze me! How does one just "Get in touch" with Irma Thomas???
Hey Keith,
Do you know if she's playing the main roon at Gen Hall? I was hoping they would set up seating thru the whole room; I'd worry that a Lions Den size crowd, standing up, would make the large room feel pretty empty...

Well, you can go to her web page and click "Talk to me"... She or her husband will usually respond. :D

I spoke with somebody at Gernerations Hall this am who told me tickets will be $30. There will be shows at 9 and 11, however they would not clear the room so whoever showed up for the early show could stay all night without paying extra. There are no advance tickets. Regarding Swag's question it sounded like she was playing in the largest room and I was told she was hoping for a croud of 500 to 1000 people. I was also told special guests would be joining her.

Don't know anything about the venue, but I bet if there is a place in NOLA where you can get away with it, this might be one of them. It just sounds a little more low key.......just my opinion, though.

My older daughter (turning 9 that week) would LOVE to see Irma Thomas. And since this isn't a nightclub..............

The youngest baby soul is almost exactly the same age (9 in June) and she would love it, too. I say go for it! (But I would definitely shoot for the early show)

OMG! Since we lost our NOLA babysitter for the evenings, Irma's shows have been the thing we were going to miss that caused us the most agony. We were actually thinking of each going to a different show on separate nights.
If we could bring the kid to the early show, THAT would be awesome!
If anyone has the answer to that question, please post!

Number for venue (Generations Hall) is (504) 581-4367. I would call 'em and ask, but I'm on the way to school to "speak with" one of the baby soul's teachers. Give 'em a call and see what they think.

Just spoke with someone in the Operations Office at Generations Hall. He says showtimes are 7 and 10 p.m. $30 at the door. No advance tix.
And, unfortunately, 21 and over only. No kids.
I'm going to send them an e-mail anyway, just to see if I get a different answer, but that's the official word so far.

I'd call to be sure, but there is a fair sized room (with a bar) on the other side of the venue from the big room with the stage, where it would be quieter and more suitable for a young one, I'd think. You could swap off time nearer the stage with each other, perhaps...

Ahh, that kinda sucks, if you ask me. I'm sure they don't want to deal with 19 year olds trying to get in and drink, but with a 1 year-old? I bet if you just showed up with the kid in tow you wouldn't be turned down, but I guess that would be a bit of a risk...
I wonder if you can hear at all from outside? I seem to remember sort of a courtyard area right near the door with some seating - maybe y'all could alternate going inside?

Do post - because we got an e-mail stating 9pm and 11pm - so I would hate for that info to be incorrect.

I did ask the person I spoke with if he was sure. He said he was, but I don't know. 7:00 p.m. is a pretty early show for Irma. And a pretty early show for a Fest day.

Doors are at 7, shows at 9 & 11. This is from an ad in the brand new week 1 jazzfest issue of Where Yat. The ad also gives a number different than the listed number, 504-568-1702. I believe if you want to you can stay and see both shows, although I doubt many folks would.

Wow, I went to The Lion's Den the first year it opened. No cover, and beers were a buck. Those were the days...
