Can anyone give me a general idea of the covers at dba, Snug Harbor, etc.? Or does it vary widely by performer? Trying to figure out how many night shows I can afford! Thanks!

they do vary widely.
check out their websites...which you can link from the grids at http://www.jazzfestgrids.com
each show has it's own ticket price during fest. They are as cheap as free, 5 dollars, 10 dollars - up to 40 a ticket......

Good answer. Also, just to let you know, when DBA doesn't have a cover, they up the drink prices. At least that's what the small sign behind the bar
states.

Wasn't that Cafe Brazile? There are two clubs in that one space now, right?

I believe so and Mem Shannon's playing in one of them on Friday, May 3 - plug, plug. (At least I Think I'm remembering that rite.) For anyone who hasn't heard his new album Live at Tipitinas, he throws down some excellent blues.
Spotted Cat is across the street from DBA. Cafe Brasil is still closed (or was 2 weeks ago anyways), but the back half of it has been renovated into a Cafe Lazziza, the new club. Cool place.

Yeah, some of the t'heads were there to help celebrate the grand opening, St. Paddy's weekend. It's a pretty cool place. My only complaint is 1 bathroom for each gender. The line was looooong. Gawd, what's it gonna be like during Fest? I actually walked down the block to 13 and used their bathroom. When I returned, the same women and men were still standing in line.

Just to add a note on Mem Shannon. His CD: A Night at Tipitina's is good. Wonder what time that show will actually start and how much cash? We just purchased tickets to HOB that Friday to see Buddy Guy.... With all the extra mess/surcharges it was 60.00. I'm so glad my wife is OK with me and a few buddies going to NOJF because with fest and all our night club spendings, it's going to be pretty costly... I do have a good wife. Anyway, Mem would be great to see......... Thanks.

cmrm, several of the married men on da bored who fest sans wifey work throughout the year to accumulate those jazzfest points. You must do that too so good on ya.
:D
The extras eat into my brew money..........that's what hurts, you know..
Spotted Cat & Apple Barrel, always free.
dba, Cafe Brasil, Blue Nile, usually $10-$20. Snug, maybe a bit more.
Thanks Swag.............Do you ever sleep...HA

I'm going to write to his Mgr & see if he knows. Those are good questions and I have an earlier show that night also. Mind if I quote you in my email?
Certainly not, thank you............ Have a great day!
Mem's myspace page says 10pm, so certainly not any earlier than that.
FYI, it looks like Mem's website has been hacked, I get a virus warning when I try to visit, then a blank page.

Yup, I will back up this fine answer from my esteemed Threadhead colleague, ONJ!
Usually the free nights are during the week and the covers appear on the weekends, but during Fest that often shifts due to the increased attendance.
Also, Spotted Cat and the Apple Barrel have begun to "strongly encourage" not bringing in outside drinks and having folks buy a drink or two there . . . since they are smaller (i.e., wee) clubs and pretty much never charge a cover, I think this is understandable and I am happy to support that policy! ;) :D
In other news, it was Cafe Brasil that had the fire (which wasn't a total conflagration) and the other club that's opened up next to it on the other side (near the most excellent indeed 13) is Yuki. Yuki has great Japanese food, sake and drinks! :)

Spotted Cat is across from the d.b.a., Cafe Brasil had a small fire and reopened, but the owner closed it up last summer and it has stayed that way, although the back half of the building has been redone and is open from Chartres Street as Lazziza Hookah Cafe. It's only been opened a couple of weeks, but it has potential for fest. It is open until 3A weekdays and 5A weekends and the kitchen is open late as well.

Adam says he doesn't know for sure but he thinks 10 sounds about rite. I was hoping it would be much later than that, since the club is open so late.
He said Mem's Myspace Page is okay and all traffic to his website is now being redirected to there.

ironically, i go into Spotted Cat &/or Apple Barrel to purchase a beverage to drink while i stand outside DBA & listen to their band. at fest time, i dont want to pay the cover for one set, when its so crowded you cant get close enough to see the band anyway.
