I'm a huge Anders fan. Love his recorded music and his live performances. For the last 10 years he has been one of my must sees. But, I always wished he would play some of his mellow songs in his live shows. I loved his jamming and of course Kurt and Tim jamming with him, but I always hoped he'd knock it back a bit for a couple tunes.
So, now I'm lucky enough to be headed down for 2nd weekend and he is playing Carrolton Station with John Papa. I mean, Carrolton Station has got to be an unplugged show, right? He has his new disc out which is AMAZING! And it is all mellower stuff. He paints such great pictures of NO in so many of the songs! So, that show is one of my most anticipated shows of the whole trip. Am I alone?

I love Anders and guessed the same thing about this show==that it will be some laid back. But no, Carrolton Station shows are not always unplugged.

It will indeed be a great show, Kev, but kk is right in that Carrolton is not always unplugged but we can certainly hope for a stripped down show

I have seen him w/ John Gros @ Carrolton a couple of times. It is indeed a mellower show. I cant wait to hear some of his new stuff live!

Yeah, I just picked up on him for the first time yesterday, sampling some of the stuff on Amazon. The cube is now yellow and might also just have to make the Carrolton show as well.

Glad to hear I won't be there alone! All this talk on the board about the grids and all the shows folks are targetting and I hadn't seen anyone mention this one.
Mightyrad, any chance you will be in attendance?
My traveling companion wants to go to Sam Bush, so I considering letter her go there and I was going to go to this show solo. It would be great to meet up with some Theads!

I doubt the show with Papa will be toned down since it's also with John Fohl and Jimmy Robinson.

Man oh man....he ripped it up last night....I kinda felt bad for the other musicians because so many of them had to share the stage...he sounds so great..that man is amazing.
On stage at one time was....101 Runners, Papa Mali, Eric Lindell, Monk boudreaux, Kirk Joseph, Anders....I can barely even remember who else... I took some pics.
One of the best nights ever for me....

I had a bad feeling last year when Kirk didn't make Anders' shows at High Sierra Music Festival, but Anders "made do" with Rob Mercurio and Nick Daniels covering the basses, so to speak :) I'd like to hear more of his acoustic song-writer stuff, but I can't imagine "Stoned, Drunk & Nekkid" without Eric Bolivar's contributions!

Saw Anders AGAIN last night....holy moly....I walked in and there was Johnny V playing with him and Kirk....Life was GREAT last night.
I think I have found a new home....
Hey Jazzers.....I would have to think that getting backstage has something to do with me having worked at BB's for so long that I just don't care anymore. Nothing is off limits unless there are cops with guns in hand...lol
Heading to a Crawfish Boil....have a happy Sunday Ya'll....

Alligator Records Signs Anders Osborne
Anders Osborne
Alligator Records has announced the signing of award-winning guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Anders Osborne.
Osborne's Alligator Records debut album, American Patchwork, is a moving collection of soul-baring roots rock, blues and ballads. Many of the songs on American Patchwork deal with healing and redemption, spirituality and acceptance.
Osborne and friend Stanton Moore (Galactic) produced the album, with co-production by Pepper Keenan (of Down).
According to Osborne, "This is the healing, the patching back together, of a man scattered to the wind, broken and in pieces. The rebuilding of my home, a city under water and in ruins, friends lost, my community in disarray, all carefully patched and made whole again by the power of my America, and its endless source of inspiration to me. This is my American patchwork."
Since 1995 Osborne has released a series of albums for major and independent labels. His music mixes blues, soul, funk and R&B into a signature sound and style. Two songs co-written by Osborne appear on blues great Keb Mo's Grammy-winning 1999 release, Slow Down. Osborne's compositions have been covered by artists as diverse as Brad Paisley, Tab Benoit, Jonny Lang and Kim Carnes. Country superstar Tim McGraw scored a #1 hit with Anders' song Watch The Wind Blow.
Osborne was born in Sweden in 1966. His father was a professional jazz musician and, at an early age, Anders began playing guitar and discovering the musical power of the blues and the lyrical depth of songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Jackson Browne. At 16, he was traveling across Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East, earning money by performing at every opportunity. His grandfather, a sailor, had often told him vivid stories of New Orleans, so when he arrived there in 1985, he felt right at home. He effortlessly incorporated the sounds of New Orleans into his own music, and the city quickly became a large part of his soul.
In April Osborne will play three times at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (and make many more area appearances during the festival period), followed by a six-week tour of the U.S. on a double bill with the Stanton Moore Trio. With a new label, a new recording, and a new appreciation of life itself, Anders Osborne is ready to move forward. As a youth he traveled the globe before settling in New Orleans. Now, as a proud American, he'll travel from New Orleans, bringing his powerful original songs and soulful, bluesy, rock-fueled music to destinations all over the world.
Anders Osborne tour dates available here.
He sounded great at Le Bon Temps a couple of weeks ago.

So looking forward to his fest performance, the cd, and maybe a stop here on his tour. After all, Chicago is the home of Alligator Records.
He's doing a west coast swing immediately following Jazzfest. His website has him playing the Independent in San Francisco w/ The Stanton Moore Trio on Saturday, May 8th. A great club to see and hear Anders.

Have had the good fortune of having caught Anders in last 6 wks @ Blue Nile, Le Bon Roule, Rock 'N Bowl, Chickie WW (w/ Johnny Sansone & John Fohl < 3 guitars > ) and a killer show @ Tip's that I'd love to see 'im do @ Fest : Kirk Joseph romping beside Mark Mullins wailing, a sax & harp & Anders soaring wildly ALL OVER the top w/ Big Chief Monk & his deep, mellow Indian incantations floating across the bottom. AMAZING! Anders is an extraordinary catch regardless of lineup.
