One of my favorite parts of the festival is catching certain acts in the Economy Hall that encourage parasol parading. I know Dr. White does that. Anyway, I have some first-timers joining me who would love to see that and hopefully join in, and was trying to figure which bands are my best bets second weekend, especially on Friday, when I think they will be going. Thanks!

If parasol parading means second line then most of the bands there do it at one time or another. I'm no expert but The Treme Brass Band on the second Saturday would be my sure thing.

Yes, that is what I meant, though it always seems less random, more organized at Economy, so I was wondering if certain bands are counted on to get the crowd going in that direction. And I think you are right about The Treme Brass Band.Thanks...

I pretty much hang out in Economy hall for most of the fest...
and they pretty much do the second line thing for just about every act that plays...
I think its a safe bet that you will see them if you go there at any time..

we have several festial virgins also. Clive Wilson and the Ramblers are good bets But will you miss John Boutte'? The vipers are a great act and Wanda Rouzan will have people up. I will be at Stevie, and Ingrid. Good luck

All day 2nd Saturday would be a good time to expose your friends to the aural ecstasy that is Traditional New Orleans Jazz. I can't wait to hear the Jazz Hounds of Tokyo.

I saw her last year tearing it up on the dance floor with a younger gentlemen. They made me leak!
If you are out at the fest grounds early, check out 96 years young Lionel Ferbos and the Palm Court Jazz Band.

The key thing about second lining is to wait for the signal from Mr. Eddie. Ask anybody and they will point him out.

Looks like Ingrid's at the Lagniappe stage this year. And such major FOMS at that time. Tough choice to be made only in the moment.

Don't forget to second line for the parades scheduled in the afternoons. I'll be in that number!

I already thought about the parades, and thanks for all the responses! Unfortunately, the first-timers shied away from a long trip to NOLA and may only get one day at the festival, which is shaping up to be Friday.
(I know, I know. I tried.)

Is it too much to hope that she's learned another tune? I love Bourbon St. Parade as much as anyone, but this little 50 lb. ham of a showstopper needs to stretch out a little bit more!

Mr. Eddie is an Economy Hall legend.Yes, and he must be shown the proper respect by waiting for him to start the second line.

She knows. Sometimes there is a tune that just ain't right and a few people get up and try to second line. But everyone else knows if Mr. Eddie ain't leading it, it just ain't right.
