Could be the perfect way to close out the trip. Just around the corner from Hotels too.

Hey Now--- I am not certain, but I think that the Ivan Neville Dumpstaphunk show (sunday 5/5 at Tips) has been sold out for a few weeks, which might make getting advance tickets to the Subdudes/Keb Mo show a good idea..... Also , for a great chance to hear the Subdudes in a welcoming, spacious and affordable venue, be sure to check out their show on friday 5/2 at Southport Hall. The Southport has become my favorite live music venue for shows during Fest, as its location, away from the Quarter and off the beaten path, keeps crowds from becoming overwhelming, as is so often the case at Tips, Howlin' Wolf, and H.O.B........ Southport has tons of room, a great sound system and beverage prices that cant be beat. The staff is always been friendly, and it has a huge patio to hang out on during set breaks..... I think its location (about a $15 dollar cab ride from the Quarter) keeps a lot of people away from the venue, but for those willing to travel a bit, Southport is a wonderful place to get your groove on!!! The Southport is my favorite venue also with plenty of parking.

This would be such a great show, the only thing that's making me hesitate is the fact that it is at the HOB. I have truly come to hate that place. Way to crowded and too expensive. I think I might just try and catch the Friday night dudes show at Southport. I would also like to try and catch Sonny at the rock n bowl on Sunday night.

Southport sucks, stay away!
!dont be telling everyone how uncrowded it is, or it wont stay that way - ;)
and my experience has been they start on time, so i home by the time other places are just starting their headliners.

We saw them last year at Southport. Undercrowded I would say. Nice place and all just make sure you have driving directions as the cabbie had no clue and that was United! Just a suggestion.

Regarding the Southport...how safe is the walk (10 of us) from Jacque Imos to the Southport for a Sat. nite show?

Regarding the Southport...how safe is the walk (10 of us) from Jacque Imos to the Southport for a Sat. nite show?Hey Now Neen&lar, while I know that you will love seeing music at Southport, I dont think walking there from anywhere is much of an option..... It is kind of set apart by itself, off the beaten track, which is the reason that the crowds for shows are so much more managable that at other music venues. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy Southport as much as I always do...... Matthew

Oh, man! the first year (2005?) Southport had shows we cab'd from Crescent City Brewhouse for a subdudes show and got the ride of our lives from a local driver too proud to admit that there was a venue she'd never been to and too stubborn to ask for directions - and I thought that was strictly a "guy" thing! She tried to drop us at the Leaf, then took us up a street out past Carrolton that looked like little Beirut - complete with burned-out cars in the street... I actually had to beg her to back out of that neighborhood and call her dispatcher for directions. But we had a great time and we'll be back this year. Getting back was a bit trickier, so I hope the cabbies are more clued-in now. I remember people not being quite as accomodating about crowding into the same cab like trips home from the Rock'n'Bowl.

We were at the Southport show last year as well. We were planning to again this year, but HOB may change that.
The HOB has it being the last Sunday, so we won't care how long it goes, while Southport is Friday and we'll probably get stuck chatting it up with Mike and the guys after the show, so who knows when we'd get out.
Trying to grab a cab after last year's show was a concern. Plus if we skip this one we get a chance to catch Orleans Avenue for yet a 3rd night.

this was threaded earlier this year. someone who lives in the neighborhood said NOT to walk. and there is no sidewalk and its a pretty busy (fast cars) street.
if you have 10 people for the night, and are hanging in a pack, you might consider getting a van and a driver. 3 cabs every trip will add up quickly. minimum $40 plus tips per trip.
