When will the 2008 festival map come out?
I am interested in changes that they may have to make to accomodate the construction and temporary casino.
There are semi permanent office buildings in the area that is normally used for the Sauvage St. entrance gate. Will the entrance have to be moved this year?

YEs.. basically they take up the whole area that is normally in between the security checkpoint and the actual ticket gate. In front of the "box office"
I suppose they could still use this gate with some changes as to how the entrance works.. like instead of entering the gate and turning left to get to the ticket takers, it could be set up to the right.. but that would put the
actual entrance betwen the Jazz tent and the grandstand

moving/adjusting the entrance will either make it a lot easier to get into our parking lot or a lot harder - depends upon which way they move it. we have to make the turn from sauvage onto fortin. sometimes we just have to wait for the crowd to clear. luckily we pack a cooler.

And among the things the 2008 Map reveals is the continued existence of the Blues Tent! Well, let's hope it's bigger and that the Fest hierarchy listened to some of the other concerns folks outlined.

Something's switched with Gospel/Blues/Jazz tents this year.
Something's switched with Gospel/Blues/Jazz tents this year.
Yes, looks like a new Gospel Tent area closer to the Grandstand near where the WWOZ hospitality area used to be; Jazz Tent looks like it's in between where Gospel and Blues Tents used to be; and Blues Tent looks like it's in between where Jazz and Gospel Tents used to be. Interesting.

Comparing to last year's map, the tents are in exactly the same places as last year. The Contemporary Craft area is still split in two, but part of it is closer to the Jazz Tent than it was last year.
The General Store has been moved a bit. Kid's food area is back again near the Kid's tent. A couple more "wine bottles" on the map, and the recycling areas are on.
There is a "Foundation Pavilion" near the Grandstand and a Grand Marshall area designated in front of Acura.
Anyone see other changes?

For sure. And it's fine by me -- I enjoyed the couple of little bottles I had last year a lot.

The sparkling wine was (Sofia) but I didn't have any of it. I can't remember right now what the white and red was, but I don't think it was Coppola.
They weren't bad, but somehow it just didn't feel right drinking wine in the hot sun at Fest.

No, I recollect that it was in its traditional locale last year near the Grandstand. There is another sponsor's hospitality booth right next to Fais do do. Actually that ticked me off, because they expanded it and stole some prime real estate that should be protected for dancin to da chank a chank.

Thanks festy,
changes make sense -- Aside from the swapping of Blues/Gospel/jazz are there any changes to the insides of the tents? Specifically, is the Blues tent any bigger? is there still grass in the back or has it been moved to the side? can you enter from all 3 sides? Anything to stop chairs from being left empty on the entire grass portion?
I'd really love to see some blues this year, but the vibe the last few years has been really sad for me.
One more for gospel -- any chance of turning the volume down a bit? I always feel like it is 10-20% louder than other tents. My kids and mother -n-law won't go in there with me.
Thanks Dave

Love the Gospel Tent. It has been really loud. I can't imagine the foundation telling a sound tech turn it down at any fest stage. And I can't imagine that the Gospel Tent has had the same tech all these years. Each tech mixes differently and that includes volume. But it does seem consistently loud over the years.

I'm actually concerned that the Jazz tent is too close to Accura. Some of the artists in the Jazz tent will use softer dynamics compared to Gospel or Blues Tents. The loud thump of Accura may bleed over.

The tent is in the same place it was last year -- was it a problem?
Actually a few years ago Greg and I went to hear Cassandra Wilson when the jazz tent was in its previous location and she got quite badly drowned out -- the new location can't get much worse.

Yeah, but I feel for the Jazz fans. After all, the word Jazz IS in the name of this event. Much as I hated having to trek all the way down to the corner, they will, too, and unless they give the folks running the Acura some instruction and a dose of common sense, the Jazz Tent is likely to suffer more from sound intrusion than the Blues ever did.
