Here's a little tool to make downloading files at Live Music Archive (and anywhere else) easier and quicker. Unfortunately it's just for Firefox...

Get the DownThemAll add on. The link is http://www.downthemall.net/. It comes with some preset filters to download audio files but nothing for .flac and .shn files commonly found on LMA. But here's a work-a-round.

Once you get it installed, open it and click "Preferences" in the lower right. click the "filters" tab and Add New Filter.

Here's the filter text set up for .flac files...

/(\.(flac))$/

Put whatever file extension you want in place of flac. I've only tried it with mp3, shn and flac. I assume the filter could work for any file type. The advantage of this filter is will download ONLY the file type specified.

The biggest advantage is being able to start the download and go. Using the DownThemAll plug in and setting up a filter allows you to download all the files at once without having to click on each file. So if there are 20 flac files, you start the DTA plug, filter for flac (or shn or mp3 or whatever), hit download and go fetch a beverage of your choice. The plug handles the rest.

The makers of DownThemAll also claim it's an accelerator and will reduce the overall download time. I can't vouch for that. I can say it's a lot nicer to use the plug-in and do something else rather than sit at the computer and download each file separately.

It may slow down other 'net stuff a bit but not too bad if you're on high speed/cable.

FYI...I just checked. It works fine from the ftp page as well.
