I usually wait until after the Fest to make my LMF purchases, besides the $100 gift certificate I'm going to win in the raffle will come in handy then.

I love to buy cds at lmf when it's not jazzfest. All those listening centers rock. what a great way to spend an afternoon. Impossible to get to when the instores start. So if I make it to the bins...

Add new ones by Henry Butler and Marcia Ball.
Come on people, chip in to this thread. That is how I found out about Eric Lindell. Enough people on here mentioned him and I bought it on word of mouth and LOVED it.

My problem is that I don't make a list. There is so much that I want, I usually wait until I go in and see what's on sale and what is new. I may have in my head "I need some more brass bands," or something like that. I have several hundred N.O. cds, but there's always tons to buy.

Ok, I'm kinda like Frosty & Staxsun. I don't have a real 'list', but will browse and buy what looks good (I need more brass bands too!) and name recognition ("I've heard lots about xxxx so it MUST be good - gotta get").
Oh yeah, and I MUST get Paul Sanchez' new one. :)

I love to walk in off "in store" hours and browse...usually for big loud brass horn type of stuff, funk, and whatever moves me.

In December, I went in about opening time and did my shopping. Late afternoon there was an in-store. I was there just after it finished hoping to run into some folks. Met up with Juana and Papafrog (and later saw BigDag and Pokerchick). When I was leaving LMF, the guy behind the counter said something like, "you came back". It never occurred to me that as busy as it was that afternoon, he'd remember me from the morning (and I'm the quiet type of guy who shops without asking questions).

There's a college radio station here in San Antonio that plays a lot of zydeco, brass bands, and other N'Awlins type music. One day I heard "Funky Liza" by the N.O. Nightcrawlers; I was blown away. If I don't order that one from LMF between now and Jazz Fest I'll pick it up there. Otherwise I'll just check the local and latest releases when I'm there for the live music during the week.

Not really self-promoting, but if you are free on Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 PM Central time, I have a New Orleans show which you can hear on the internet at www.wevl.org .
