Hey Now! Does anyone know who is playing in Phil's band currently? Its been a while since I have seen him, and I know that it has been a fluid lineup, with different musicians the last few times I saw them.... He has been playing some great stuff, several songs that have not heard since the good ol days.(Mountains of the Moon, Doin' That Rag, etc.) I hope you all enjoy the ride tonight, check back in and let me know how it is. Thanks, Matthew

Hey Now! Does anyone know who is playing in Phil's band currently?
The band in January was
The Band:
Phil Lesh - Bass, Vocals
John Molo - Drums
Jackie Green - Guitar, Hamonica, Keyboards, Vocals
Larry Campbell - Guitar, Pedal Steel
Steve Molitz - Keyboards
but I have no idea if there has been changes or not.

No offense to Keller but putting him in the slot behind the Funky Meters is equivalent to going on a 400 mile trip knowing you will have a flat tire close to your destination.

Thanks, I know that Molo has been with Phil for years, and I think Larry Campbell was in Bob Dylan's backup band for several years.... I hope you all dig the music tonight, after Fest, I will be getting a new computer setup, so that I am not always missing out on stuff like this..... Enjoy, Matthew

Yes, Larry Campbell, an amazing multi-instrumentalist, was in Bob Dylan's touring band for several years. For the past few years he has been in Levon Helm's band. If you have never been to a Midnight Ramble at Levon's place in Woodstock, you must, period. The best musical experience going these days imo. We've been three times so far (plus the Kid's Ramble, which is awesome too) and keep trying to figure out a way to get back for another one.
As for Phil's current band, Jackie Greene is a pretty good talent in his own right too. The disc he put out last year is very good imo.

No offense taken! Phil sounds good. I really liked the second set China Cat opener. But, I really do think Ratdog is better; I can't stand hearing any of Phil's bands sing Weir songs without Weir. Plus, Weir has moved in a jazz direction, as opposed to a Grateful Dead Light direction, so I give him big points for that.
All that said, this has been enjoyable. I wish I would have caught all of the Funky Meters!

Ugh. Deadhead for decades, but never been a Bobby fan. Ratdog is aptly named imo. To place Bobby above Phil--and to dub Phil "light" in any respect--comes close to blasphemy for me.

Okay, see your point about the "light'' reference. Sadly, the boys do enough fighting amongst themselves, wasn't trying to start one here...

No worries; just constitutionally incapable of letting that one pass without comment. Peace.

Here we go..... the debate that never ends and has no answwr....There are def two camps now and this discussion takes place whenever Deadheads gather ....I love me some PHIL and FRIENDS. Though I typically don't miss a Ratdog show either but I wish Bobby would do more of his own catalog...It makes me nuts when a Ratdog show is heavy on Jerry tunes...I like Bobby doing Bobby!! not Bobby making me miss our Fat Man!

Don't get me going on Bobby doing Jerry; nothing makes Jerry's absence more glaring, or more painful.

I love it! HA Soooo funny.
I'm a big Bobby fan also but think phil puts together incredible bands. The best part is you don't have to pick a favorite, long them both!
You can't go wrong with either imo.

They seem to have had more than thier share of being in disagreement yes indeed!!! but aren't we glad that Phil and Bobby as in all dysfunctional families seem to come back together and make up at least for the sake of the music :p Oh much like the TH's !!!
