View Full Version : Ms Lena's Brigade '08 - Open for Business

Sign ups are open! Go to Threadheads.org (http://www.threadheads.org) and point at Ms Lena's Brigade. Click Volunteer! from the popup.
There are some changes this year that, I hope, will help us fill the less popular slots. Afternoon shifts have been broken into 2-hour shifts. Note that you need to volunteer for TWO of those shifts to qualify for a free ticket. They don't have to be consecutive shifts but the honor system will be in effect.
We have also added a 4-person Early Heavy Lifters shift from 8a - 11a to help load in ice and beverages.
We reduced the number of volunteers needed for each shift since we had more than we needed last year during the full shifts when we included Ms Lena's regular workers. (So, yes, I guess it could "sell out". ACK!)
And, finally, I'm asking that those volunteers that have a Diamondcutters' shirt from the previous years to bring it along. If you don't have one - or have never volunteered before - Ms Lena will have one for you. No problem.
Be sure to read the Details & Info page, especially if you've never volunteered before. And everyone needs to check it when it gets closer in case anything changes.

Well, I don't think it's actually a free paper ticket. I think you just meet ms lena at the back gate for free entry.

No reason that I can think of that you can't. But if you're planning on that, just sign up one person. I'm counting slots filled, not who's there.

Hey Now Susan.... I think I would like to give this a try, but i cant seem to figure out where to sign up...... I want to be a team player , but there are a couple of bands that I dont want to miss (PBS, Subdudes, Stevie Wonder and the Nevilles) Is there a way to insure what times I will be needed at? Not trying to be difficult, but i am only down for tha last weekend, and I WANT to help Lena, but knowing when I will be working would be a huge help! Matthew

Susan, after posting, then re-reading YOUR post, I went back and was able to figure it out..... (with my apparently limited mental capacity, maybe I should not be put in charge of the accounting department) I feel that I could gladly sign up for the Thur. and Fri 10-2 shifts and not miss any bands that are on my "must see" lists. Could you please note this, and pass along the info to Lena, as my computer wont let me finish the sign up process. Thanks for all the help, I cant wait to see you all soon, Matthew

i disagree, i would expect PBS & subdudes to be after 2pm, but you never know. maybe you could split morning shifts with someone who isnt an early person, you do first part of morning, they do second part.

http://brigade08.eventbrite.com/ is the sign up sheet. It basically boils down to 4 shifts per day:
8a - 11a
10a - 2p
2p-4p
4p-6p
Just make your best educated guess, Matthew. I can switch you around later, if necessary, to a spot that's open that works for you. We're VERY flexible. :)

Susan, I was able to get to the page with the sign up times, and put in my shifts (Thur and Fri---2nd weekend---10 until 2) but when I attempted to register those shifts it said page not available..... This happens on my computer fairly often, with all kinds of different sites, and causes all sorts of headaches for me when I am on line.... It would be helpful for you to sign me up, if that is too much hassle, I can use a freinds computer, or the librarys in the next couple of days.... Have a great weekend, Matthew (who is in the market for a nice, shiny new computer after Fest)

that averages out to 2 fridays.
It's actually pretty painful trying to pick a shift before the cubes come out, having to guess time-of-day to avoid FOMS. I was looking 1st saturday, but was afraid of missing Germaine Bazzle, a perrenial fest highlight for me. Then I thought 2nd Friday, but there was the Tuba Woodshed. I ended up going with 1st Sunday, but many here will steer clear of that because Shamarr plays that day.

Charlie's (not Charles) steakhouse has not reopened since the federal flood of 2005. CHarlie died a few years before this and his sister Dottye is in her 80s. The restaurant has been bought by a local bartender who swears nothing will change. It was supposed to open in late December, but that was a little optimistic. Charlie's is located in the 4500 block of Dryades, near Napoleon Ave, a few blocks from St. Charles. Avenue.

Looks like I'm too late.
Anyone want to share a 10am-2pm shift on first Sunday? I could do either the 10-12 or the 12-2.
Also - I don't need the free ticket (already bought mine), so whoever splits with me is welcome to it.
Neen, email me.

The grid looks GREAT, CBH!!! Just one thing - I had thought I had signed up Matty for Friday, 5/2 (and it wasn't indicating "Sold Out" at that time) . . . it might be my bad though - I just thought I'd check for Mr. Matt, who's eager to work for Ms. Lena as much as his little fingers are able to count change! :D ;)

Nope, looks like you skipped 1st Sat & 2nd Fri. There'll probably be a little (I hope just a little) shifting around when the cubes come out. I'll let you know if anyone changes out of that shift. You might want to remind me though... :)

Hey Now Susan, after looking at the cubes, I am thrilled with the shifts that I chose..... No major schedule misses, so it really lined up well for me. When the shift is over, do we need wait around for our replacements, or are we free to get going right at 2--- (which is when the early shift ends, right?). Thanks, Matthew

That's when it ends. Sometimes it's a little guilt-inducing to decide to go, especially if you're on the front counter. Let Ms Lena know and she'll rustle up a repacement or close the "window".
Having replacements come in is why we try to push the afternoon shifts to fill up. It runs much more smoothly if there ARE replacements coming.

Just a head's up for those that might like to use a volunteer parking pass. It sounds like they are gonna park volunteers offsite and shuttle 'em in due to the construction going on on the casino. The final meeting is Monday night. Ms Lena will let me know as soon as she can. Sounds like they're leaning toward parking at City Park & Popp Fountain (near the museum). I'll post as soon as I know the final details...

Sure! They'll just need to call Ms Lena to meet them at the Belfort gate.
Or they could pick up their ticket the day before their shifts, provided they aren't wanting to work on the first day of the weekend.
