of snow on my patio. The spot where I like to have a libation, listen to music, have a nice read...is deeply buried beneath a pile of very cold, very white stuff.
Anyone else dealing with this nonsense? I know it doesn't seem like a lot for those north of the border or in the snowbelt, but it's quite a lot for us in a 24 hour period. We're not equipped for this kind of snow.
At least I have my well-stocked bar, Ron Burgandy and the rest of the Channel 4 News Team to keep me company. If you don't hear from me later this evening it's because I've either passed out from too many visits to the bar or expired in my driveway from over-exursion during shoveling. Or, passed out in my driveway from too many visits to the bar while shoveling, or some other combination of the above.
Think warm thoughts for me...

Muff, I'm north of the border and we're not used to THIS. Toronto really doesn't get that much snow, but it's been relentless today, complete with snow thunder! (I'm not kidding.) I've been having a blast playing with the dog, but even that's wearing a little thin...enough already!

Hey Now --- Its been great weather here in Salt Lake this week, after a winter where we have had several record breaking storms. I am planning on hitting the slopes tommorow morning, but for tonight, a few cold ones at home with some background music on the patio (a rareity in Salt Lake in march). Have a fine weekend, and keep well hydrated. Matthew

Bry, no one has heard of Blanchester! :D
Call me nuts, but I'm still having fun with this white stuff! I was standing in a 3' drift and just let myself fall over backward into it. Then, I made a cool snow angel! :D
The air is unusually clear & clean because hardly anyone is out driving and there is little air traffic. It's quieter than usual, too.
Check out the sky. There is a tiny little crescent of a New Moon. We can look at it and be reminded of New Orleans.
Looking forward to tomorrow. I might built a snow fort and make a snow man!
My snow plow guy said he might be able to make it out tomorrow, after he finishes his commercial accounts. We'll see what happens!

Ohio, I LOVE that picture! I'm not kidding. It's just that I never lived with snow or northern winters, and being a weather buff and liking all kinds of weather conditions, I kind of wish I could be there....just to see it for a little while anyway. I know some of you might think I'm crazy, and would gladly switch places with me (I'm in Key West of course).....but the powdery type looks kinda nice. Actually, this has been one of the warmest Februarys on record (as well as the winter itself) for this area. It might seem very inviting...and it is....but after a VERY long summer here, I don't always feel like seeing 84 degrees, high humidity, and needing the air-conditioner....and it has been that way a lot! However the same front that is affecting all of you up north has pushed through all Florida (even the Keys) and tonight is cold.....low 60s with northerly winds 25-35 mph off the water....it's nippy, even for northerners! I know that so many of you are looking forward to the warmth of Jazz Fest.....for me, it is going north. However, I must admit that in August (went for Satchmo Fest) that New Orleans felt hotter than Key West....that's HOT:cool:

Okay, so we didn't get any snow here in the mid-Atlantic, but it was rainy, foggy and actually muggy here for most of the day. Then, around 4:00 p.m., the sun breaks through the clouds and the temp is around 60. I decided it was a great time to sneak in a 5 mile run. I get 2 1/2 miles from home, look up, and see the blackest storm clouds you can imagine. I figure I can make it back if I pick up the pace, but after another mile it starts raining and actually hailing on me... absolutely schizophrenic weather. Then, on the way home, I notice that all of the traffic lights are out. I get home and my wife informs me that the power went out 20 minutes ago... we are having a dinner party. Holy shit, that sucks.
Fortunately, my brother in law (a dinner party guest) informed me that casseroles can be cooked on the grill. That, and you don't need electricity to drink. And anyone familiar with Murphy's Law could have predicted that the power came back on as we were eating dinner...

Course this is the land of 1000 Lake Effects....The place where every frozen wind that has swept across the Great Lakes comes to die and take its last dump. (Actually, that place is really 75 miles to the East...A town called "Pulaski"..sometimes they get 5 five feet in one day. )
And we can take it..mainly cause we have to, again and again. .14 inches of Snow, Ice and Sleet doesn't excuse you from work most days here. The best I've seen here was 48 inches in 48 Hours...even for us, that one was considered bad. This time of year everyone here talks of suffering from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) or having Cabin Fever for months or of Feeling like a chump for staying here another Winter. A neighbor asked me:"Do you remember the sun?", as if he wanted to confirm that warmth, heat and a sky of any other color than grey wasn't just a dream.
Me, I just kept shoveling it.

Talked to my sister in-law tonight, who is visiting her daughter a bit east of Cleveland. It's part of the lake effect snowbelt as well. She said there is 3 feet of snow on the ground. I lived in that area during part of my high school years, and we sometimes got about a foot per day for 3 or 4 days in a row. Never missed school though, because they were always prepared.

But just speaking for us here in Chicago, where we didn't get one snow day as big as that, just day after day after day after day of 4-6" and ice and cold and melting and refreezing and flooding and slips and falls and put on more layers and the wind chill's below zero again and bundle up and it's too cold to walk the dog and the dogs going nuts and I'm going nuts and we need MORE salt? and it's almost St Pattys day and its still snowing......

LOL, That is so funny. One advantage to living in the middle of nowhere Virginia is that the mountains tend to block a lot of the bad weather. I can only remember one big snowfall in the three years I have lived here. Now if we can just get rid of the ice strorms... Actually, the last two winters here have been very mild. Makes me think that in my old age, I would like to live further south...maybe NOLA????
