Lettuce has said that they were going to play Jazzfest but no details yet. I hope they play during the 2nd weekend of the fest.
Maple Leaf and Blue Nile both have late night spots open and are great clubs. Krasno is playing both weekends at the Howlin Wolf with other musicians. They have a new albut "Rage" coming out around 4/22. Can't Wait!
Any Thoughts?
(New Mastersounds could schedule a couple more gigs too...)

Well I guess my 2nd wish came true with New Mastersounds scheduling a late night 2nd weekend @ the HOB - Parish. I would prefer a different venue but I can't complain!
Now...bring on the Lettuce funk...what are they waiting for to schedule?
2 of the finest funk bands on the planet.

they absolutely tore up Sullivan Hall last Saturday, although they need some more gigs to get tighter, there were a bunch of times when everyone was playing over everyone!!!
Maurice Brown was playing in the horns section . . . dont know if that was a sit-in or is permanent?

IMO, heavily Meters-influenced funk and soul, purely instrumental. A bit faster-paced than the Meters (speed-Meters?). Not techno at all. The band is from Leeds, England, but to listen to them play you would think they were New Orleans born and raised. Sound similar to Lettuce to me at times; also like some Soulive, and the more straight-ahead Galactic, circa Coolin' Off. Check out their myspace page for some samples. They are definitely a must see for a night show for me this Fest.

Just listened to a recording of New Mastersounds from the High Sierra music fest. Really great, vintage sound, but more jammy. Funk/soul/jazz/jam. Meters meet Grant Green meet jam. Really looking forward to seeing them.

Have to agree with your opinion, I saw them last year at Wakarusa (http://www.musicroadman.com/2007/06/08/wakarusa-festival-day-1-060707/) for the first time playing with Papa Mali and was really impressed, then saw Galactic the next night (http://www.musicroadman.com/2007/06/08/wakarusa-festival-day-2-060807/)...:D I am still working on my late night schedule, but hoping to catch them at Tips or the Blue Nile... so many place to be, so little time...

I'm glad these posts could turn some others on to the New Mastersounds. They are a great band...always a fun time.
I discovered them at High Sierra Music Festival a couple years ago. The more people that go see them, the more often they will come play in the states.

I love their sound. I'll add them to the possibilities on mygrids. That's our hood for the week so it will be quite tempting to pick lots of Frenchmen shows.
Jazzfest is coming!!!!!!!!!

Hell Yeah!! Lettuce/Soulive double bill!! I'll finally get to see Lettuce live. Check out their take on "Movin On Up" on their myspace from their new album Rage.
Soulive is back to the trio format (sans vocals like I prefer).
I think I may have to split time between Republic and Howlin Wolf where there is also an incredible line-up including John Medeski, Billy Martin, Jason Miles, Bernie Worell, Karl Denson, and DJ Logic. Thank goodness they are right accross the street from each other!

Ok, I"ll fess up since you mentioned it. I was not thrilled to see the double bill was with soulive. i have several albums but I've only seen them once. At fest last year. And I didn't think they were all that. But hearing they've ditched the vocals means another listen! Wootothehootyhoothooooooo!!!!!!!!
I love Sam Kininger.
Jazzfest is coming!!!!!!:D

Sam Kinninger has been playing with Soulive some lately again for parts of their show. It's all instrumental though in 2008.

The Soulive/Lettuce show starts @ 10.....does anyone have an idea of who plays first and how late shows go at the Republic? We are going on the riverboat and would REALLY like to see Lettuce afterwards.....wondering if we will make it. Thanks!

You could always just opt to see Lettuce on Friday night at Tips FQ. Dats what I'm a doing.
Just a guess, but I bet Lettuce will play first at The Republic. Just a guess.

we refer to that as the AIC (adult in charge), they're hared to come by at fest. i think others refer to them as 'slurge protectors'.
just stay away from cabs full of bostonians. ;)
